3060 upgrade advice

Having just completed a 13700k build and splurged on a Dell AW34DWF, someone has offered me a good price for my 3060 and existing monitor.

I'm only going to game at 1440p and had originally set my sights on a 4080, but having done some research, i'm thinking a 4070ti is probably going to be sufficient? Open to any thoughts on this, but bear the following in mind:

  • i'm a brand-slave and only want NVIDIA
  • I know the super-series are coming, but I can't wait as the buyer wants my existing components within 2 weeks.
  • A budget of £800 is my max; are we likely to see a 4080 at this price point on BF?
  • If a 4070ti drops to £650, is it still better value than a 4080 at £800/£850
Grateful for any suggestions.

Not unless AMD massively cut the price of the XTX and seeing as high-end cards are selling like hotcakes for AI and the 4090 is getting more expensive, I very much doubt it.

It depends on how you define value, but I'd still be reluctant to pay that much for a 12 GB card.

If it was me, I'd just get a 4070 as close to £500 as possible (83% faster than the 3060 according to TPU here) and expect to upgrade it within the next generation or two.

cheapest i can find are roughly

4070 ti £770

4080 £1170

Im not sure where the info comes from about price dropping to 650 / 800 but i doubt it very much.

I would go for a 4070 and make do with it and hope the next generation are a huge leap in performance.

Thanks for this. I'll take a look at the 4070 as an alternative.

There was a short deal on a rainforest website 2 months ago where 4070ti was £640. I'm hoping the upcoming launch of the Super series might encourage some retailers to move some stock on.

More tempting over the 4070 at that price, but £800
