Can anyone advise what second hand card would be a decent upgrade from a 3060Ti? I've got a 9600k and a 750w PSU, currently playing on a 144hz 1440p Ultrawide.

I've seen a few RTX 3090s going for about £550 - £600 locally, would this be a good step up?

The 9600k barely seems to take much of a hit in most of the games I currently play and obviously I'd rather not replace the PSU if I don't need to. I've never really been a big fan of the AMD offerings and feel loosing out on DLSS would be a big hit given how developers are using it as a crutch these days.

Double posting here but I've being looking around a little more and a new 7800 XT is growing on me.

Is there any go to "brands" for AMD or are they all about the same? My last few Nvidia cards have been either EVGA or Founders Editions so I've got no idea what are good "brands" these days, especially from AMDs side.

Sapphire have been knocking it out of the park this gen imo, they'd be my first choice :)

Okay, one more stupid question. I've ordered the card but will I need any silly adaptors or anything? I know my RTX 3060Ti came with an 8pin to 12pin.

No. AMD have decided to stick with the tried and tested 6/8-pin plugs for now. As above, 7800 XTs all require two 8-pins from what I've seen.

Fantastic, I look forward to getting rid of the pig ugly adapter that came with my 3060Ti. At least getting this will have saved me a few quid on buying a nicer adapter in the long run!

Thanks for all the help guys!

The card arrived this afternoon and is all installed, i'm having some teething issues with the drivers it appears even though I used DDU to remove the old ones. I'm going to reinstall windows tonight and see if it fixes the issue.

Averaging 80 - 90 FPS on Baldur's Gate 3 on Ultra at 3440 x 1440 with FSR off. Sitting happy and silent at 64 degrees under 99% load which is vastly better than my old FE card.

That is likely to be your problem. From experience it often removes stuff it shouldnt remove. I stopped using it years ago the drivers installer/fresh installer routines are there so programs like these are not needed but used due to personal preference.

Yeah, I had a feeling that may have been the issue. It's not the end of the world doing a reinstall as the computer is only used for gaming. I'll just have to set Baldur's Gate 3 and Starfield downloading overnight as my internet is terrible.

Hi Antony,

What issues were you having? - I had some minor issues with my 7900XT at first and now thinking it may possibly be because I also used DDU when I upgraded....
Has re-installing resolved the issues?

Thanks!

Whenever I clicked on anything in a browser the PC would lock up for two seconds or so. Games and the AMD drivers kept crashing.

The full wipe and reinstall of Windows has sorted it all, smooth as butter now.

I got a vertical mount today as I think the "bottom" looks nicer than the backplate. It's interesting to see that the fans don't even spin up until the card goes over 85% usage.

I need an AIO cooler now and maybe an LED strip to make it a bit more visible. The fans are placeholders too as I'm hoping to get some Lian Li ones next month.

Thanks, not the same issues I've been having (monitor not waking up on boot, an occasional flicker) but probably worth bunging a spare SSD in and trying it some time.....Hesitant as I've got a lot of music plugins and stuff that will take an age to re-install :(

Your system looks great, what case is that?

I had an odd flicker with colours changing when you moved around the OS but didn't have any issues with my monitor not waking. I'm lucky that I just had 400GB+ of games to reinstall haha!

Thank you, it's an NZXT H9, I replaced my Meshify 2 Compact with it a week ago and it's fantastic.

Yeah I was thinking the issues I've had were a problem with the HDMI ports, but it affects both of them and seems to improve with each new driver. Also reluctant to try to RMA as it happens so infrequently I'm not confident they could replicate the issue, or it could just be something with my setup not playing well. (also missed the 14 day returns window as I had a lot on at the time)

Looks like a really nice case, was hoping it had room for a 480mm rad in the top, my current case does but seems most these days top out at 360/420....might have to consider a smaller case and mounting the rad externally on the wall or something!
