So my kids GPU died while playing tabs. Not a clue why just went pop. Taken it apart and best I can figured out one of the rails has died all the caps are 000.2 instead of 200 plus. Dont have a hot air station to replace them anyway and beyond my shaky hand skill set. 12th gen i3 with 16GB ram can someone recommend a replacement card good for 1080p gaming ideally 1440p. I was thinking hes due a cpu update but thats for christmas. He likes to stream as well. Was thinking of not going used again its lasted less than a year. Budget ideally 250 but can push to 300

The Radeon 9060xt is basically a direct replacement, but with double the vram.

Does he stream by using nvenc? If desperately wanting to stick with Nvidia then it's the 5060ti 16gb but that's £400.
5060ti 8gb is a no-no
If you're desperate to keep to £300 then it's the 5060

Unless you go used of course...

Apparently these go for 90 to 120 faulty spares or repairs so can do 400. Will look at 5060ti thanks. After having a 9800xt im never touching amd again.

The 5060 Ti 16GB is alright, great for 1080p and decent for 1440p, but at £400 it is pushing close to the 5070 and 9070, which are significantly stronger cards (apart from the -4GB of VRAM on the 5070).

The 9060 XT 16GB being ~£330 makes sense to buy when the 9070 is nearer £500, but when the 5060 Ti 16GB is £400 and the 5070 has been nearly £450, hmm. Don't pay too much for one.

The amd cards do look good value for money I might go for the 9070XT for myself and stick the 3080 in the kids pc as it will just work. I swore I would never go back but surely AMD has got better with drivers by now.

Amd drivers are excellent, Nvidias are not. It's been like that a while now. And I know I owned a 4090 and and an 9070 XT. I kept the 9070 XT and sold the 4090.

9060XT, the 16gb version ideally if the budget is around £300

9060xt 16gb seems to be the thought so far. He doesn’t play anything T demanding and that’s what is really annoying me about the 3070ti just dying. Never had a gpu do that for zero reason.

Managed to get a good deal on a 5060 locally so grabbed that for a cheap price, Will install shortly. So far the thinking seems to be a power surge of some sort as it appears the hd60x that was attached to the gcard is also fried. Wondering if replacing the psu would be prudent as well. Its under warranty and less than a year old.

MSI MAG A750GL PCIE5 Power Supply Unit, 750W, 80 Plus Gold, Fully Modular, ATX 3.0, PCIe 5.0 GPU Support, Black Flat Cables, 7 Year Warranty

Should have been more than enough for a 3070ti and a i3 but who knows. 9 months old. Will just get a swap for a new one not worth the risk.

Edit: checked reviews for that PSU and the POP and its dead is apparently common yikes.

I've had the opposite experience.
Adrenaline constantly popping up randomly for no reason when not even in a game, loosing more and more parts of the performance tab, to the point my CPU doesn't even show up as an option now? Mis-reading the temps versus other programs - that are known to be correct.
I've done multiple DDU's in safe mode and even deleted the folder, and it briefly all worked for a bit, then disappeared randomly, then as newer Adrenaline software updates came out, it started happening again.

Where as with my 4070, it's 'just worked' since release? Never had anything glitchy and random happen, and the same goes for the Nvidia Control Panel. Hell I have even forgotten to check for updates many times, and it's not affected a latest AAA game, of which I play many.

I have no preference to which brand I use, just whatever works at the time and is the best bang per buck of my chosen budget. But Adrenaline really is **** poor from my experience.
