Just a quick one, looking at a full system build or getting a new system built by OcUK, ideally looking around a Gen 11 i7, 32gb etc.. but I will be gaming around 1440p or maybe even down at 1080p for a while.

Its been a while and a fair few times in the past the "1 model below" TI card was usually better than the none Ti one above!

For reference, i'm coming from a 560Ti, so anything will be a step up :p

Really? Whats hapened there? Not arguing the fact as I have no idea and am sitting on a Gen 3 i5 still atm! :)

Worth looking at some reviews really. The only benefit Gen 11 had over 10 is the addition of PCIE 4.0 support. Otherwise at the very high end at least, gen 11 was a bit of a step backwards.

The 11900k was slower in some circumstances over the 10900k due to it losing cores. It also used a ton of power.

I have some 10th gen CPU’s that I use for specific purposes, but not sure I would build a new pc around them unless able to get an exceptionally good deal. Doesn’t make sense when you can buy x570 boards and a Ryzen 5700/5800 up pretty cheap now.

Ah fair enough, I guess I just thought I'd go the intel/Nvidia path as its whats i've always been on, obviously I'm sure a Ryzen/AMD Graphics system would also be phenominal if specced right.

A i5 12600k would be better than a 10/11th gen i7 or i9 in pretty much every scenario.

Appreciate the feedback, I was looking at a G12 i7 but not sure if it'll be overkill with a 3080 and just spending for the sake of it and seeing very little difference unless going with a higher end Graphics Card and wanting to game in 4k.

You should definitely go 12th, 13th or AMD AM5 if you're buying a new system. 11th gen is obsolete (was already obsoleted on release by it's predecessor, tbh) and just doesn't make sense (unless it's really cheap, I guess). Have a watch of the "waste of sand" video on GamersNexus YouTube channel.

Graphics card: I'd honestly just get whatever you can find a good deal on, these cards are all looking dated and overpriced now. You don't even 'need' a 3070 Ti for 1440p, but if the 3080 is only a little more (e.g £50-£100) then I'd take it. A good starting point for prices is still the FE cards, if you're close then it is reasonable.

If Ray Tracing isn't your priority there's some decent deals for the 6900XT.
But if sticking with NVidia a 3080 12GB does close the gap to the more expensive 3080Ti.
Only issue is that most 12GB disappeared now.

If you want to use max settings in modern games then a 3070 Ti isn't going to cut it at 1440P. A 3070 Ti was what I was looking at when I had a 2070 Super and reviews showed it to be only a few fps faster thar the 2070 Super which was starting to show its age in the latest titles as I wanted to keep settings maxed at 3440x1440. Also keep in mind most games now use 8-10GB of VRAM at higher settings, so the 3070 Ti will once again be holding you back.

3080 12GB minimum.

Bloody hell, things really have moved on in 10 years :p

So 3080 minimum, I guess 3090 or 3090 Ti would be more ideal even?

Could hold off until the new year, the 4080 12gb needs to be re-released under it's new name and that's out 'soon' according to rumours (some are saying 5th Jan announcement). Not saying it will be good value but it could have an impact on other prices (don't hold breath though, it's still unlikely due to nvidia being greedy after covid/miner prices)

I'd imagine the purchse will be around late feb, hopefully, waiting on a house to sell to generate the monies for this, just trying to plan an entire system with essentially no idea on whats currently good or bad value with a view to the entire system needing to be upgraded aside from a few SSDs that would get pulled over.

Honestly, I wouldn't bother looking into it too heavily until closer to the date of purchase... things are potentially changing a lot in the next few months.

There's rumours of the 7000x3D chipsets in the new year, 4080/90 Ti variant gpu's are being mentioned in some spaces (bit early imo)... If we're really lucky the excess crypto stock of 3000 series gpu's may have dried up enough for some 'proper' pricing on the 4070/80 series...

Yeah the looming Ti 40 series announcement and new AMDs and the price drop that is coming anyway with the 4080 16GB. Personally I would wait a little bit longer.

No worries, not in the position to purchase right now anyways, just thought I would test the waters & see approx costs for systems etc.. obviously the graphics card seems to be the hardest point, can put together a pretty generic Gen 12 i5/7 32GB build in a decent sized case and 750W PSU and then in theory "should" be able to drop any graphics card into that build.

No harm in getting an idea of what you want, just be prepared to change it lol... I'd also say go bigger than 750w psu, current stuff is power hungry.

Yeah, after watching a few Linus & other videos now thinking 1000W is ideal to go for.

SSDs etc aside, the last proper upgrade was November 2011, hence all the questions! :)

850w if on AMD platform should be all you will need even with a 4090 if you are not chasing 3DMark scores.
