Hi all,

Planning a 3080 build when it drops. Can you give me some advice on what I currently have? I have space in the budget for the GPU, and don't need any more peripherals, accessories or software.

Cheers!

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £770.16 (includes shipping: £12.30)

Case is poor, not enough cooling and position of psu is at the top.

You can get teamgroup 3200mhz 32gb for £99.

I would suggest a 1tb for os and games like a western digital sn 550 m2.

I would look at an aftermarket cpu cooler.

There is always an Amd option, but intel still have a slight lead in gaming .

And zen 3 is due for release th8s year.

AMD has an announcement in the begining of October, you may aswell wait till then and see what Zen3 brings out. Chances are it will even lower the price of current CPU offerings.

I'd probably spend the extra 50 quid and get the 10700k since your getting hyper threading it will age better especially as the new consoles are 8/16 cores/threads.

I wouldn't buy anything just yet though till you got the GPU as Zen 3 might be out by then and may well be better than Intel and comes with PCIe gen 4.

No point paying the Intel tax if you are considering 4K resolution. You will be mostly gpu bound anyway so there wouldn't be much difference in fps between a 10900K and an R5 3600.

It is more likely to be around £1100 for the 3080 ti as it would make no sense if it was more expensive than the RTX 3090.
They might even release the 3080ti at the same price as the 3080 and then drop that down a £100 like they did with pascal and there is a gap to drop it into.

Can't see the price going up much else it just won't be worth it considering the 3090 is only a 15% bump and the 80ti would have to be less than that.

I don't think prices will drop. Maybe if Big Navi can compete with the 3080 but that is a big maybe. Also we need to see reviews for the 3080 and 3090 to determine performance. I would still imagine the 3080 ti to slot in pricewise between the 3080 and 3090.

@mickyflinn, thanks for the cooler advice - I hadn't noticed it didn't come with one...silly me.

Gone for the 10th gen i7 instead.

One thing to those who have mentioned it - I was looking at the 3080 (not the ti), which appears to release on 17 Sept. Have I misunderstood when it is coming out?

Not worried about the Ryzen 3 release, as I fancy getting the ball rolling asap!

It is released on the 17th but that's assuming there will be enough stock to go around hence why waiting on the rest of the build isn't a bad idea in case by the time you managed to get one zen 3 is already out.
