Hi everyone,

I’m not quite sure how I managed it, however I think I’ve just successfully purchased a 3080 FE at MSRP (just got a Telegram alert and purchased via my phone!). Hopefully this is an early sign that the market is improving for us gamers!

How does the 3080 FE compare with my current Sapphire RX6800 Nitro+? If I decide to keep the 3080 I will have to sell my current GPU too. What’s the safest way to do this? If selling it is going to be risky in the current climate I may just return the 3080 without opening it for a refund and stick with what I have. I will add that I have no interest whatsoever in making profit from either of these cards, and would return the 3080 any day over trying to make a profit.

I mainly play Flight Sim 2020, so ray tracing is not an issue for me.

Thank you.

Swaps places depending on the game and resolution - AMD do actually have a good product this time around. Could always try both and settle on the one you prefer tbh.

Try both out in the game/s you play most, compare performance, temperatures, power usage, fan noise, drivers, etc and sell whichever one you like least.

The safest selling option is gumtree / facebook for cash in hand.

As above, try them both on the games you enjoy and sell the one you like the least.

Do not sell on Ebay . If buyers decide to return The item they can and there is nothing u can do about it.

If u want to sell do only cash in hand.

Thanks for the feedback all, I’ll have a think. It’s just that as soon as I open the 3080 I’m committed to selling the one I don’t want privately and it maybe be a headache with all the nonsense that’s going on at the moment - will need to give this a little thought.

I’ve always sold my old GPUs on eBay, including my old 1070 earlier this year, however as you say it’s prob. not worth the risk at the moment.

I agree.
It is a good place for honest trade.

But the way ebay is protecting the buyers, and the fact that GPUs are scares, scammers Flog to it like flies to a dung.

MSFS much prefers the nVidia cards. Your 3080 is a good 15% faster than even a 6900XT. I'd definitely keep the 3080 and shift the 6800XT if you're mostly just simming.

Just sell the card you don't want to CEX, saves you having to worry about trying to sell it to the public :)
This.

Cex make it painless to sell.

If noise matters to you at all, I think that nitro+ is going to be much better. The FE cards are not quiet, and tend to coil-whine too. (From a sample size of 2... so maybe Im just unlucky)

And yea, just try both cards out in the games you play. See which is better etc.

Curious what made you buy the 3080fe if you already have the 6800xt nitro? Must be something you dont like about the nitro?

(Im still half-on-the-hunt because of the coil-whine/noise. Performance is faultless otherwise.)

Thanks all for the fantastic advice, I really appreciate it.

These are really useful benchmarks. My card is the 6800 rather than the 6800 XT. It seems that the 3080 really comes into its own at 4K. I have a 3440x1440 ultra wide at the moment.

Thank you, this is a great idea. There is one on my high street. I don’t want to take any risks on eBay with a GPU at the moment. Really hope that me being able to order a 3080 is a sign that things are beginning to return to normal - or at least the earliest signs.

You can make a sell order on their website and then just drop it into their store, the money is usually in your account the next working day
The price they give is valid for 3 days so you have plenty of time to change your mind etc and there is no pressure. I sold my 3090FE to them a few weeks back :D

My card is just a 6800 rather than an XT. As you say, if I had the 6800 XT I would not have been looking for a 3080. I just want the best performance I can get/afford for my flight sim.

Regarding the Sapphire Nitro+ card.. it’s amazing and the best card I’ve ever had - the RGB looks fantastic, it’s whisper quiet even at load with fans at full RPM, no coil-whine (that I can hear), the cooling performance is great. It’s a quality card through and through.

That's another yet another FE card that could have gone to somebody who really needed it.

I had been looking for a 3080 since building my current rig, it’s the card I had always planned on building with. I purchased my 6800 in late Jan, the 3080 was not available anywhere at the time.

However, if by purchasing this 3080 I have been unfair then I will cancel the order immediately. I care about the gaming/PC enthusiast community and I would never even attempt to profit in the current (depressing) situation we are in! I was simply trying to get the GPU I had planned on - the Telegram alert came in and I just tapped it and purchased the card as normal - I couldn’t believe it myself. If I do keep the 3080, I would have course want my 6800 to go to a fellow gamer at the right price. I do care about our hobby and this community and I am sorry if my action in buying this card was wrong.

Don't be daft. Keep it, try it, and decide if you want to keep it over the GPU you currently have. If you don't want to keep it, you'll probably turn a profit by selling it. :)
