Hi everyone, I just sent my 12gb ASUS Strix 3080 OC in for rma due to the middle fan bearing and the right fan not working. I’m pretty nervous as looking at rma experience it’s either pretty bad or very good . Since GPU stock seems very bad at the moment what should I expect? My return was just processed and was received today.

The biggest issue with a manufacturer RMA is always the time. They are sloooooooow. Expect to be without your card for a few weeks if it has to go that way.

Im using an EVGA 1070 FTW in the meantime haha. Tbf it works pretty well at 1440p runs AC Shadows at 60/70 fps on low settings. Stole it from an old build for the meantime.

So I already got a reply! Got offered b grade 2 3080 10gb versions obviously not a choice but the 3rd option is a gigabyte 3080ti vision I should take that right? All come with warranty.

Sometimes the b-grade GPUs are returns because of excessive coil whine, so just take note. Would probably get it in writing first that you would reject the RMA if the b-grade you received has excessive coil whine.

If they say it comes with warranty surely if this is the case I can return it under that warranty they are giving me?

The warranty is the remaining warranty length of your original card if Ocuk swapped the GPU, rather than a brand new 6 month warranty as is the terms of a b-grade sale.

Coil whine is not usually covered by a warranty.
Indeed, it isn't. You can return under the distance selling regulations for regular purchases (return within 14 days for any reason). Not sure if that would apply here though as this is not a purchase. It's a like-for-like replacement during a warranty period.

I'd still go with the 3080 Ti and get it in your hands quickly. Your options outside of B grade are waiting an extended period for a manufacturer RMA, and they may end up just offering you a different card anyway.

I will ask for the card to returnable if there is coil whine, will this be noticeable over a day or 2? My original warranty ends in August

Immediately. Usually, high FPS generates the most coil whine or heavy loads, like games using DLSS and ray tracing.

If it's going to whine, it will do it straight away and it will never get any better. It's also not just GPU dependent; it can be a combination of the PSU and GPU. My current PSU makes every card I've ever had whine, and I've had a few.

I haven’t had this issue although when I got my 3080 my mate got the 3080ti and he returned it due to coil whine, hopefully I’m fine but I have asked about a conditional return for coil whine.

I had a 6800XT that had a massive buzzing sound when under load, really noisy. But that did go away. It just stopped doing it. I take it that was coil whine? Anyway I'd take the 3080TI.
