Due to a plethora of reasons. Primarily ill health I haven’t been able to change my original order for a 3080. Speaking to Overclockers today it seems my two best options are a straight swap to a different 3080 for a £60ish refund or upgrade to a 3090 for retail cost so about 440 more.

Is the 3090 worth it?

I have an a ryzen 9 3900 xt and a Samsung Odyssey g9 monitor so 1440p Super Ultrawide at up to 240mhz

Get a refund and wait a couple of months for the next-gen (or at least some more solid news about them). You've waited this long, don't bother with soon-to-be old tech imo.
I had thought of that but a few issues pertain. One I’m now out of hospital so have access to my PC again and secondly as I understand it 4000 series likely to be early next year only and at that likely to be 4090 and potentially in immediately short supply

3090 better than the 6950xt? depends on the game and resolution from what ive seen. Think the 3090 is still alittle more expensive depending where you are buying it from ofcourse.
Well I’m buying from here as OC have had my money since 2020. Strangely they are still offering discounts on 3080’s for those in my position but don’t offer discounts on 3090’s

Surely it's the 6800XT at £650 that should be in the mix here - much better value than the 6950XT ? Or at least the 6900XT at £790 ? 6950XT seems pretty bad value for money
Possibly but don’t call me surely. I’m inclined to stay away from Team Red due to a strange issue I have with a 5600 that prevents me from playing CS:GO

That’s what I understood the position to be. When I built the rig I intended to put a 2080ti in it only to be convinced I should hold off for 3080 so I am reluctant to hold off again

Thanks for the advice. The majority opinion seems to be forget the 3090. Is the 3080ti at about £250 worth considering over the 12gb 3080?

I don’t want to be too critical in case OC have erred here but it seems my options are very limited.

I have already paid £770 in October 2020 and ordered an 3080 10gb ASUS Tuf gaming card and have received the following quotes.

For the equivalent card in LHR I will receive a refund of £80 so I will have paid £690 for the card. The retail cost £699.95 so a saving.

For the 12gb I have been quoted and additional £70 fee. So I will have to spend a total of £840. The retail cost of the card on the OC website is 799.99. So a £40 more than cancelling getting a refund and reordering.

I am assume my money was ring fenced whilst this was all going on but it seems that I am now much worse off than I would have been had I simply held on to my money.

I certainly won’t be preordering a 4000 series.

So thanks to everyone for their help but I think refund and order somewhere else is the way to go.
