Hi folks.
Back in 2020, I built a budget PC which has served me well, and shortly after I won a 3080ti which significantly outperformed the rest of the components, but still functioned fine. I’m looking at upgrading the rest of my PC now with the scope to upgrade the GPU in a year or 2 but not really sure where to start. Any advice is useful.
Thanks!
Baz

Sorry! Currently running a Ryzen 3600, in a b450 board and 32gb ddr4. I know most of it will need upgrading. But no idea where to start!
Cheers

oh really? That’s good to know! I’ve been looking at YT videos and it’s all ‘AM5’ and ‘PCIe4’ which all sounds nice, but not sure how much difference it’ll make.

Pcie4 won't make a lot of difference.

Re: AM5, the 5700x3d is approximately the performance of the entry level 7600 CPU.
nowadays my recommendation for a person with your usage/upgrading style is to get the 5700x3d
the reason is simple, you don't upgrade often enough, and AM5 will only have one more round of CPU upgrades until they release AM6
if you get the 5700x3d now, which is a bios update + drop-in for your 3600, you can skip the whole of the AM5 generation and the next upgrade will be AM6 or the intel equivalent.

The YouTube video I posted above is with a 3080ti, so you can see approximately what the performance uplift would be, simply by just swapping the CPU around.

Just curious are you usually CPU bound or GPU bound in games? The 3080ti is still a solid card but unless you play at lower resolutions, the CPU just isn't as important IMO

I think the guy above gave sound advice

The 3600 by todays standards is lagging behind as shown so that's an easy upgrade to the 5700/5800X3D CPUs.

I found DLSS4 helped me decide not to upgrade to a 5xxx series from a 4080 and the improvements apply to the 3xxx series. Just remember to use DLSS Swapper to upgrade the DLSS version in the games you are playing.
