3080ti Aorus Master Hot Spot Temps

Hi all, i have been having a few issues regarding temps on my Aorus Master card. When running MSI Afterburner i have noticed that my fans would ramp up to nearly 3800rpm then down again randomly.

I installed HWInfo and noticed that my hot spot temps were topping 105c but my gpu temp would be at 72c and my vram temps at 76c. This is when running graphic intensive games.

When I don't run msi afterburner the fans would stay within spec and not ramp up and down. Leaving the card to cool itself. But the hot spot temps would still be high.

Not sure what to think tbh.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks.

You aren't going to solve a hotspot by using MSI Afterburner. Either repaste/pad and invalidate your warranty, undervolt, RMA, or just live with it.

I know afterburner wont solve the hot spot problem, i was just saying that the fans only ramp up and down using afterburner. Will repasting the gpu solve this? The vram temps look fine to me so why would i have to repad those? I have heard the nightmare stories with Gigabyte and their RMA service too lol.

You sure you ain't running any custom fan curve on MSI afterburner or overclocks ?

Temps are exact same with MSI afterburner and without?

I would RMA it that hotspot is way over GPU temp it should be 10-15c difference

I never overclock anything on my system. Even turned off the OC on the card. I did have a custom fan curve that was doing great but then a few days ago the fans started to ramp upto about 4000rpm then down again. Did not think much of it but then it was doing it constant so started to look into it further. I have reduced the mV through afterburner and it has brought the hot spot down by about 9c. Not sure if Gigabyte would do anything with it? heard a lot of horror stories regarding Gigabyte RMA.

Also when sitting idle the temps between GPU and Hot Spot are 6c within each other. only when playing games or benchmarking the hot spot will be a lot higher.

I had a 2080ti arous had to rma black screens hated it .got a zotac 2080ti never looked back even got the zotac 3090.

tbh i had the aorus 1080ti and never had any problems with that card so just went ahead and got another gigabyte card. Although this is a very high demand card i upgraded my psu to the Seasonic Focus 1000w. Its only the last week i have had this problem with this card. It does have just under 4 years left on the warranty so i suppose i could try to RMA it? heard the stories though on Gigabytes RMA service :( dont really want to go down the route of repasting as this would certainly void the warranty :( .

Can you RMA it with the retailer rather than Gigabyte directly? I wouldn't try to repaste as the issue might be something else and it definitely shouldn't be anywhere near that hot (VRAM temperatures in this range are just about acceptable but not hotspot). What is the max hotspot temp if not running MSI Afterburner (90s C is fine)? Reset MSI Afterburner to default settings.

Before you do anything please monitor temperatures with HWInfo to confirm (without Afterburner and then with it but reset to default settings). Do you have any Gigabyte bloatware installed or any other software running in the background that could control fans or RGB?

It sounds like it could be a software issue so don't RMA yet.

I had a vram temp issue with my old FE cards, but this is more to down to the thermal pads, which I ended up changing.

Actually the high vram temps did impact my default fan curve. The fans would spin up into the 3k range on the crap factory pads.

It’s a repaste job for your card, I bet there is insufficient paste or the paste has dried up already.

I wouldnt open it up warranty will be gone, at first I would RMA if it was fine before with hotspot and it just happened seems issue is with the card

The best thing would be to RMA it and at least you wouldn’t risk the losing the warrant. it’s all good if it goes well and you can repaste and put new pads but if you have a problem in the future they might not repair it under warranty anymor, if it’s getting hot spots with good cooling it would be better to RMA and try to get a new one.

Yeah i still have just under 4 years warranty for the card which is good. i defiantly don't want to re paste in case anything goes wrong like artifacts etc I have tried undervolting which does help and can maintain good fps as well as reducing temps. May have to see how that goes but obviously if it gets worse then i would RMA the card. It is past its one years warranty with dealer so doubt they would entertain an RMA.

tbh i never really monitored these types of temps, only the gpu temp that shows on my NZXT cooler as well as the card itself. I only started to really notice when the fans were ramping up to around 3800rpm and then dropping. This is when i learnt about HWinfo and hotspots as well as vram temps. The only reason i ever used MSI afterburner was to use my own fan curve too. Even the OC switch is turned off on the card.
