As an owner of a 3090 and a 6900xt I would say it depends on whether you want to play games with ray tracing effects or not. Also if wanting any of the other more exclusive nvidia features.

Personally I find both cards and drivers to be decent but AMD software/utility feels more modern to me. If playing games without raytracing I’d go with 6900xt or the soon to be released 6950xt - 6950xt will beat 3080ti at rasterization and be the best of this generation from AMD.

Next gen. cards possibly out later this year but if you need/want now, go for it and will still be fine for a few years.

thank you for your reply, do you think i should maybe wait untill next generation and see what that brings from both nvidia and amd

Only you can answer that based on your needs and circumstances but the 3070ti is a good card so unless there are games it is not doing what you need or want from it now then yes I’d wait.

What resolution are you having trouble with? I assume 4k + rays? If so, I'd wait until next gen because even a 3090 struggles at times. The best time to sell is often just before they drop and news starts leaking, though some people sell before and make do with a back-up card.

As you dont say why you want to upgrade then we cant really give you advice :)

On the lack of information I would say wait till next gen are out and hope there is stock.

Well I am only on 2560x1080 at the moment

:D sounds like a case of upgraditus? Upgrading within the same generation is rarely worth it, unless you can do some kind of swaparoo for little outlay. The 3070 Ti is a 1440p card, sometimes 4K, should have no problem at 1080p?

Truthfully yes I think I just have the upgrade bug haha as frame rates are fine

You already know the answer. You lose RT and DLSS with the 6900XT.

As others have already said, it's a bit late in the cycle to upgrade, especially considering the performance leap that next gen will supposedly bring.

I had the same dilemma. Ended up with KFA2 3080Ti from OCUK. If 6900XT was cheaper than it is, I would choose AMD, but because you can get 3080TI for as much as 1050GBP, price difference is not significant - I decided to go with 3080Ti. Better performance in ray tracing and especially dlss made my choice easier.

I’d go for an Nvidia card, unless the AMD card was significantly cheaper.

Intrigued by this. What constitutes ‘significantly cheaper’? 10%?, 20%? When does ‘significantly cheaper’ not apply? Both of the cards in question are at the premium end of the market…

I’ve got the 3090 in my sim racing rig that also doubles up as the graphics/video workstation occasionally - As I also use VR I think the 3090 is a bit better for the intended use than any of AMDs offerings. So nVidia wins in this use case for my needs (imo).

I have the 6900xt in my mini ITX build driving a 5k2k ultrawide - it is only a 60Hz refresh rate monitor, I don’t care for raytracing and don’t do much (any!) compute stuff on it either. Raster performance for gaming is good enough and because the 6900xt is a bit more efficient on power it also works well in the small case. So AMD wins in this use case for my needs (again imo).

I don’t think AMD have positioned themselves as a budget alternative to nVidia and so offer comparable competing products in the same price bracket.

If the cards in question were mass market ‘bang for buck’ and or market share grabbing offerings then I could see the need to compete on price - not so much in this case, the cards are both good, but better at different things.

With next gen card on the horizon I'd stick with what you have, buying a 3080ti or 6900XT means you would be paying top dollar for what will be a mid range card in 4-5 months.

Stick with the 3070Ti;

next gen cards are soon but you wont be able to get one for months anyway, scalping telegram and discord channels are salivating over screwing gamers again.
