3090 FE acceptable memory temps

Hi folks,

I know this has been a much discussed hot topic and many have re-padded their 3090 to improve memory temps. I am in a predicament where Nvidia have issued an RMA after I reported my memory temps rocketing to 112C with any load. However for the last year I have lowered these greatly using a anti sag stand, heatsinks, and a small fan on the backplate. How after 15 mins of Quake RTX torture test my tests are stable around 94/96C, fan around 50%. During gaming it will be a bit lower depending on the title.

I don't really want to do the RMA as I don't want to be without a card for 2 wks, and more concerning is that I don't want a worse card back. My current card has zero coil wind and I would be so annoyed if I received a worse unit back.

I don't want to re pad as... well its about £50 for the materials and although I am fairly confident, I don't want to risk making it worse. The gains by be marginal at best, and potentially worse.

So bottom line, is a 96C memory temp and 50% fan acceptable, or should I be looking to RMA. I'm happy with the card, just don't want to take a risk with such an expensive card.

Yes, my memory temps on my 3080 are 102-104C in Quake 2 RTX and that was in February. 94/96C is perfectly acceptable and safe (110C is the limit).

You've already tinkered with the card, those temps are fine. Most people don't do the pad replacement never mind put a fan on the back and run with the default temps it's within spec.

Keep your card

Temps are pretty much in line with mine after a pad replacement (Gelid extremes). Quake RTX was the one game (benchmark?) that I found to really drive the memory temps, compared to say Cyberpunk which is a few degrees lower peak.

Thanks for your reply. This is what I was concerned about. Either shipping this card to across the globe, or spending money on a repad to have hardly any improvement. Based on your experience I am going to stick to my anti sag stand with backplate heatsink / fan combo.
