3090 Good Enough for 4K or do I need a 4090?

Hi there. Most searches come up with 3090TI or news about 4090. So thought I would try here.

In Nov I ended up spending £2,150 on a 3090 Suprim X as part of a new build. (I prev had Vega 56) I have this currently on a 1440p screen and am really happy with the performance.

I have seen people gaming on the LG C2 and wondered how good this card would be at 4K?
Doing a quick Google suggests that the 4090 wipes the floor with my current card, so feel a little upset and daft at the bad timing I had with the market when buying my 3090.

I was hoping to get an LG for gaming and wondered how the 3090 would hold up with games on max settings?
Am I going to have to dial my settings down again lime when I had my Vega 56 moving from 1080p to 1440p or will it be ok?

It all seems a sad feeling that after spending so much money on a new build (around £4K) that 4K gaming resets me back to chasing the curve again!

What are peoples thoughts. How would 4K be, or am I best sticking to 1440p?

3090 is fine at 4k, unless you want 100fps on cyberpunk in full glory.
What games do you play and what fps do you get at present?

Currently FIFA, Division 2 and Forza 5. Completed Cyberpunk. Though I'm looking for some better games to get the most out of my card.

I ended up going over budget at mad times, thinking I would be able to mine some of the outlay back. Obv bad timing and with elec prices, that didn't work out well. So I thanked it anyways for me finally upgrading my 12 year old system. Then heard rumours of the 4090 and felt bad again.
I was hoping my next bit if tech, may be a 4K upgrade to get most out of my tech. However unsure if 4K is achievable or not?
I'm hoping so as thinking if to get a 42 LG C2 OLED or Asus 4k monitor.

I just thought by going all I'm, I would have a system that would be top of the game for quite a while.

As above. 4k without scaling or performance enhancements (DLSS) at best settings on all modern games is still quite impossible at high consistent frame rates.

3090 doesn't look to be worth getting rid of in exchange for the next top tier cards, certainly until benchmarkers fully test next gen so we can guage performance better. I'd wait until at least then before making any decisions.

Wow. At the time I considered going Xbox X or PS5 for 4k gaming, but thought going all in would better the consoles.
Vega 56 did 1440p fine with some tweaking and going to a 3090 doesn't bump me up any resolution levels!?
Guess I may have to just enjoy the smoother frame rate.

I need to read more on DLSS as never used it. I thought it was kinda just fake 4k magic!?

Console's use various techniques to do what they do so straight PC comparisons aren't the same, but the new consoles are certainly great now vs older ones. You should have a play with settings like DLSS and tweak shadows for example to see what you can notice and what you can't.

Digital Foundry do some good videos on youtube that cover this kinda thing.

Yeah, I think I saw some vids on YouTube with them when I had my Vega 56 at 1440p.
I was hoping to crank everything up and move away from tweaking everything as takes time with every game.
Just watching Spiderman with RTX on YouTube at moment and that looks awesome.

I guess I'm left with all the whistles at 1440p or upgrading to an OLED and tweaking the best games. I suppose the OLED may provide a nice image alone, that may feel like an upgrade. Though 42" Screen may be too big for mouse and keyboard games.
