So ive got a Zotac Arctitc storm 3090 with 3*8PCI connectors on it. This puppy is fully watercooled never get above 51/52, pumping straight into a 420 60mm thick rad.

What i was suprised to find out though was that it comes with the stock vbios, 350w max and only 10 % uplift so its topping out at just 400w before hitting power limits. Now to me that seems daft, why fit 3 8 Pins to allow it to pull 500 watts then cripple it in the bios especially when it comes with a waterblock.

Ive been doing some reading an based on what ive seen all 3090s have the same vbios just with some factory power limit tweaks. So could I say flash a 500w EVGA bios at not brick it?

Is this safe?
I'm not worried about temps or efficiency just the frames for gaming.

Answers on a postcard please

you do you but i wouldnt be shocked to find out its a watercooled brick if you continue, what are the memory temps on the card as the 3090 was alwaysn ***** for those not the core temps

If you're just trying to squeeze a bit more life out of the card and aren't worried about having to replace it any time soon, then go for it. However, you're only going to get a few more frames out of it, so is it worth it?

tbh not looked at the memory temps, whats the limit on those?

As you say dont want to brick it if its only going to be an extra 4 or 5 frames

Non water cooled 110c was the limit if I remember right. Anything over that was a risk and there was the threads about changing the pads and bringing it under 100c.

You remember right 110 was the limit, although a lot of people (myself included) were a bit doubtful about that being wise.

IIRC this was only an issue when mining though? My 3090 FE didn't have excessive memory temps when gaming.

Mine would hit 110 and throttle in gaming until I sorted my case airflow.

I can't test it now, as I've got the upgrade (which I'm eternally thankful to the Lord and also the MM for) but I think 110 gaming is on the high side. It did vary by unit though.
Yeah I had really poor airflow over the backplate as I have an AIO, it would hit 110 and ramp the fans/drop clocks. It's sorted now though by changing my fans around.
