3090 performance degraded?

Hi all,

I'm abit confused with what's going on with my GPU. I felt like it was performing as before so I ran a 3DMark benchmark and the results were quite shocking.

Before:
Time spy: 19126
https://www.3dmark.com/spy/24166541

After:
Time spy: 7148
https://www.3dmark.com/spy/24187812

I've reinstalled Nvidia drivers after wiping them using DDU. I've also reset the BIOS. Afterburner seems to have little to no effect. I've set power to maximum performance in Nvidia control panel.

It looks like the power of the CPU and GPU clocks have gone down. I'm a little bit lost as to where to look, any ideas?

Thanks!

Surely it’s not the difference of windows 10 and 11 ?

I dont think its windows 11, I cant find any issues with performance (apart from the fixed AMD cpu issues). Both linked tests were actually on windows 11.

CPU clocks are 1ghz down on where they are supposed to be.

Has you tried any games?.

I can definitely feel the difference in games. Completely lost at what todo.

Could be PSU but then I’d imagine you’d be getting restarts. Maybe the motherboard? BIOS up-to-date? Temps and power draw ok in HWInfo?

Is it consistently bad or does performance spike when gaming?

To rule out software you’d need a fresh install of windows.

Really appreciate the input guys.

Temps consistently sit around 65 at load.

Is the CPU running that slow in games as well?

Finding it hard to test as I've never really been looking at it before. There is a 'game boost' mode in the BIOS which I've toggled on and off but doesnt seem to have much impact.

Power and temps seem fine through Afterburner and HWInfo while running the benchmark. I'll get some games loaded up and test. I've thought about windows reinstall but I did it about 2 months ago and this PC is pretty clean. I'm using a Corsair RM850x 80 PLUS Gold which is about 10 months old (aswell as the rest of the machine) so I dont think it's that.

Not sure if this provides any more info:

Are you using any weird power plans? Your Windows should be on the balanced plan and don’t have anything set via other tools like Ryzen Master. Your CPU might actually be fine but because your GPU is running low, the CPU doesn’t need to boost much.

For the GPU, check the power management in Nvidia control panel and make sure it’s set Manage 3D settings -> Set power management mode to high performance and reboot.

Do you have Citrix workspace installed. The latest version degraded gaming performance massively. I reinstalled windows not knowing the culprit

Is that with the standard cooler? 65 is very low for the 3090

Had the same problem with my 3090, ended up reinstalling Win 10 to fix it (exact symptoms as the OP) which fixed it. Reinstalled Citrix too and it’s still fine though.

Op had the same, all of a sudden BFV (DX11) was unplayable - 1-2 FPS in menu. Ran Firestrike - score about 50% down. 9900K and a 3090.

Far Cry 6 and Heaven were ok though!

Did a DDU, older drivers, the lot and nothing fixed it.

Went for a Win 10 reinstall and that fixed it. As said above, maybe to do with Citrix?

Deffo go back back to windows 10 and stop beta testing windows 11. A friends got a 3090 founders and his memory temps were terrible. He had to re-thermal pad his RAM chips and got his temps down over 25 degrees. This stopped his card from throttling.
