Hey Overclockers peeps

Thanks for having me. I have taken on my older brother's pc after he's gone abroad for his studies and currently have the following specs

intel core i9 9900K 3.60GHz coffee lake
mpg z390 gaming pro carbon MOBO
ram dual-channel DDR4 @ 1066MHz
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090
PSU corsair RM850 850watt

I have a budget of 3K or so but can get parts down the line if I cannot get everything at once. What would you guys recommend in terms of upgrading to a 5080? Ideally I would like to switch from intel to AMD and find a good mobo for that

Any kind help would be appreciated thanks

Agreed. At 1440p, the 3090 is still more than capable and even 4K with some tweaking or DLSS/FSR for more demanding games.

As Tetras has said, your current rig is great. What monitor do you have? If it's not OLED, get a nice OLED (or WOLED or miniOLED or whatever) monitor as that'll have a marked improvement as to how you use the machine.

Spending £3k on upgrading a 3090 and 9900K is throwing away good parts for not a huge upgrade.

‘Upgrading’ this system essentially means building a new PC: motherboard, cpu, ram, GPU…I would see how you get on with this one because it’s still capable :)

this tells me your older brother built a nice system back in the day..

If you needed anything more than this you'd have built something before you got given this, just enjoy it, still a nice setup for most things as others have said. :)
