Looking for a new card and been looking at a 3090, im currently using a 3070Ti. 3090's are not a bad price and can be had for around the £750 mark for a decent one. With RDNA3 imminent should i wait and see, how do you think the 7900XT would compare and also Nvidia's 3070Ti if and when it gets released, i'm in no rush. Potentially looking at LG's 240hz OLED 1440p to go with whichever card i purchase. All thoughts on this would be appreciated. Ray tracing is not important but for games that dont need the frames it would be a bonus.

The biggest question is what is your objective?
There is nothing I'm aware of that a 3090 can play at acceptable frame rates that a 3070ti cannot assuming you compromise on one or two settings. If it were me I'd wait to see what AMD bring to the table.

On a related note while I wouldn't quite say "beware 2nd hand 3090s", some models of the card undoubtedly have issues.

The whole new world drama was down to incorrect vrm design on a few versions of the card, and I think almost all 3090s memory gets very toasty on the back side so maybe watch out for ex mining GPUs in particular due to the memory temp issues.

My objective is too have high frames without dropping too much in the way of eye candy, mainly for FPS games but i play cyberpunk too. I did put in the OP the monitor i'll be looking at and i'd like to use to its full potential if poss. I wont pay silly money, 4080 is a no no unless they drop there pricing. 1k absolute max, prefer the £800 mark tbh. I wasn't aware of vrm issues as i don't follow VGA's too much at all, any in particular that have the known issues???

So 3090 will only net you a 30% uplift from a 3070ti at best, to put that into numbers that's like going from 60fps to 78fps. Or putting that another way, going from DLSS performance to DLSS quality and making no other changes.

I always look for 2x performance in my upgrades because otherwise it just doesnt feel worthwhile to me, so i fully intend to skip a generation.

With regards to 3090's i dont consider myself expert enough to give purchasing advice, i do know the FE's did not suffer from the New World issue, but FE's have among the worst memory thermals esentially requiring re-padding. Buildzoid when asked which second hand 3090's to consider reccomended only the Asus TUF and Strix cards.

I wouldn't bother going from a 3070ti to a 3090, but benchmarks for 7900's should be interesting, depending what games you play
Been kinda thinking the same which is why i've been holding back.

What on earth is wrong with a 3070ti?!?
Not a lot to be fair, for my current set up 1440p and 165hz it just copes with settings dropped, i'm averaging 150fps in MW2, just thinking forward thats all.

Stick with what you’ve got until you actually need the uplift, IMO.

No point buying something you don’t need yet as by the time you do, something better should be available.

I play MW2 multiplayer with a 3070ti at that resolution and find it absolutely fine.

Obviously I can't play it with settings maxed and expect 100+ FPS in multiplayer. I did play it maxed to begin with but have since tweaked it to lower settings to get similar FPS to you and find it much better for online multiplayer. It just looks a lot cleaner and clearer when trying to spot opposing players.

I need to go back to the single player campaign but will crank that up as high as it can go. As long as it hits 60 FPS, which I'm sure it can, I'm more than happy.

Stick with what you have.

Hopefully AMD can be a bit more competitive this generation so when it comes to RTX5xxx and RDNA 4, we might have more sensible pricing and the jump from a 3070ti will be a huge difference. That's what I'm planning to do.
