3090 - was it meant for gamers ?

With its 24 GB of RAM id be thinking it’s bound to be amazing but was it as it doesn’t appear to be much better especially considering the 4090 was so much better.

Was it a poor card ?

3090 not much better than a 3080 whereas the 4090 is a lot better than a 4080.

Well that’s the impression I’m getting from benchmarks

The 4090 is a lot better relative to the 4080 then the 3090 was to the 3080. Well the benchies say this from what I can see. Gaming benchies that is

The pandemic didn’t help pricing wise with the 3080. Was the 3090 twice as much ?

looking at this as I have just bought this card here. the 3090 looks terrible for the money.

Well Jensen claimed it was an 8K gaming card in his original launch day presentation. But I'm not sure that many people who watched that assumed that it would be really capable of it.

The presentation's part about non gaming applications for the 3090's extra memory is worth a watch if you are still interested. I probably have more hours on traditional ray tracing rendering on mine than I do on gaming.

That’s how these 24 GB cards are really - lots of cuda cores and ram

Very rarely worth getting the 90 class cards, as they're just too expensive over the 80 and below classes

They must be used for something with its 24GB RAM and 16000 cuda cores. It’s great amazing rendering power for scenes and content creators etc

I think its the face the 3090 had 10,496 CUDA cores and the 4090 has 16,000.

The 3080 had 8,000 odd depending on the 10GB/12GB version

The 4080 has 9700 and the super 10,200 so the difference between 3080/3090 and 4080/4090 was significant.

Enough to make a big difference

Covid and scalpers defo pushed up the prices and availability so it was crazy time. Even the 2080 super I bought on here during covid was £550
