3090FE Noise and Stutters in games

Hi all,

After installing the latest Nvidia Drivers (have tried rolling back no joy) my 3090 makes this horrid noise when under load (playing any game).

Also I have major stutters in game which make anything totally unplayable.

Any thoughts before I try and RMA with Nvidia?

Thanks,
Alex.

Coil whine! Did you have a frame rate cap on with the previous drivers? And if not have you tried setting one, at or just below your monitors refresh rate? I get pretty bad whine too at high FPS.

That wouldn't explain the stutters though.

about the stuttering Have you monitored GPU temps, Hotspot temp, VRAM temp and clock speed / power use when underload ? to see if anything is unusual

you can also run some benchmarks see if the score expected for the card model

I've used a few 3080's and 3090's. All of which have the same noise as in your video. Coil whine is expected on these cards.

Some claim to have non, though these are likely older people with hearing loss (those in late 40's, going into 50's often can't hear it).

I have a 3080 and will count myself amongst those that do not notice any coil whine. If I can't notice it, then to me it's the same as there not being any.

Only mid thirties, too!

What resolution? the ~5 3080's and 3090's I've owned have only made loud coilwhine noise at 4k 100hz+ - at 1080P or 1440P (which doesn't push the cards) they are quiet.

You could just be super lucky and have a golden sample with no whine :D

gone through 2 3080 FE, first one the coil whine was high pitched could clearly hear it even when all the fans kicked in thats GPU and Case fans undervolting couldnt help much, So RMA and got replacement second one had it but mostly gets drowned out when the fans kick in much better than the first one reduced it more with undervolting , its a lottery

1440p 240hz
