Just put my 20D up for sale at the weekend in preparation for the 30D being avaliable hopefully within the next 2-3 weeks.

havent heard any talk around these parts about the 30d or any potential owners...am I the only one?

I'm waiting to see how much the 2nd hand 20D's go for. I can't afford a 30D, but a 20D is a possibility.

If I have the cash spare I'll get one. My 10D's new shutter is only going last another 2 years probably so it would be good to have a camera that will last 4 years.

As others have said, I wouldnt get rid of my 20d for the 30d upgrade, i will however be getting a 30d as soon I can, ive placed a preorder at a UK based store offering them Body Only for £913... they have an expected stock date of 30/3/06

Ive seen places as low as £814 inc vat, but as ive never heard of them before I dont feel comfortable ordering from them.

I don't consider it enough of an upgrade from the 20D to be honest. Would rather save the money and put it towards some new glass
I second that :)
I just don't feel the 30D offers me any more than the 20D, it certainly won't improve my photography. The upgrade is probably going to cost about £500 and I'd rather put that towards a prime lens or some lighting gear.

And another, The only things on the 30D I'd like are the spot metering and getting rid of the stupid folder system. Not worth £500 to change though.

When you say spot meter... what do you mean? I was under the impression I have had spot metering on the 300d and 20d!

The 300D, 350D, 10D and 20D only have partial metering, this is 9% of the scene. Spot metering on the 30D is 3.5% of the scene.

Ah I follow now.. I cant say as I've ever had much trouble with spot metering before.. if I think the shuttle speed is not correct I meter again - I guess the improvements on the 30d would just make it a bit more accurate

Shuttle speed eh ;)

I am at a loss, I will be able to afford the 30D quite soon but I want the Nikon d200 because it is so much more, I am at the moment using the nikon d70 (and also sometimes the d2x) with 80-200 f2.8 nikkor and 18-70 AFS plus the 55mm 1.8 macro manual nikkor and they are just all awesome, I am also really liking the system nikon have on the cameras and the wealth of options in the menus available, much more than the canons I have had and encountered. The d200 is also a small amount more than the 30D and I have lots of access to Nikon lenses & gear so would benefit from it but the only thing I like is Canons low noise on iso above 400 as I regularly shoot at 800iso or more when indoors - I guess this is a minor issue though.

What's going on with you and your cameras? Any closer to that 1d you were planning on? :)

I did a ninja edit and missed your post :p

Yeah 1D is a bit of a reach at the moment and for what I am doing right now and this year I don't feel the £1000 price increase over sya a d200 or bit more if 30D were to be would be justified.

I can say one thing though, you cannot beat nikkor glass, I now know why they are so expensive and having access to them means I would benefit from the d200 - ALso someone else here has the d200 don't they ?
