On my 30d the exposure is always set to 1/3 over on the scale, any reason behind this, I can't seem to find an option to change it. If I change it manually on the metering/exposure button it doesn't effect the shot taken.

Sounds like it's flash exposure compensation and not exposure compensation that has been changed.

Had already tried, but seems i was looking too far into what the problem was, I normally shoot in Av or Tv mode and had simply turned the big dial for "Exposure Compensation" I didnt even know you could do this but upon checking the manual you can. Doh :o

Thanks for the help anyway!

Me thinks someone needs to read the manual :p

Have read it cover to cover several times so much to take in, I knew you could dial in the exposure with M, and set exposure bracketing, flash compensation etc I just got it into my head that with the Av and Tv modes you set the variable and it does the rest.

Being a complete novice a year ago (still a novice now :o) and jumping in at the deep end with a fairly complex camera such as the 30D, I can see why a lot of people give up on DSLR photography, I my self sometimes think its not for me as I'm quite limited in my creative scope, but I'm getting there and thinking more about setting up a shot and the camera settings etc. Its very rewarding when it all comes together.
