Well my 30D just arrived, after an impulse upgrade. Who can say no to £540 after cashback? :)

I was a bit concerned about the larger size as I'm not a big guy by any means. But the size is perfect. Chunky, but nicely chunky. Fits the hand perfectly. The 350D does indeed seem like a toy now :(

I love having all the controls right there, and the display on the top saves a lot of effort. Means you never have to go into the main menu again. The larger display is also a life saver. Can get a much better idea of whether a shot worked or not compared to the smaller size on the 350D. The real test will be when I get this baby out for a test drive, hoping especially to get some 5fps action going when I go down to Cornwall to try and catch some surfing :p

So in conclusion, if you have a couple of hundred quid spare, then I'd say the upgrade is well worth it. Now to order that battery grip to make it even more chunky :D

sounds good. this is the camera im thinking of upgrading to from my 350d. do you find it a lot different to use from the 350d? have you had to sit and have a good play with it to find where things are or is it quite easy to pick up and use?

ps. dont forget to update your sig matey ;)

Haha will update now! :D

I did have to read the manual for once to understand the use of the jog dial. But once you play for 10 mins it all becomes pretty clear. It's half the fun after all. I wouldn't want a toy that I could use fully straight off.

I think the controls will take a bit of getting use to, but they look like they'll be much easier and quicker to use once I get the hang of it.

I'm very tempted to do this too. The 30d is priced awesomely. But i'm holding firm and saving for a 5d! Now that will be an upgrade :)

hehe I was tempted by a 5D, but I went for the 30D for 2 reasons:

1) If I bought the 5D I wouldn't be able to buy anything else for 2 months :D
2) I like doing a lot of telephoto stuff, so the full-frame would probably work against me more than it would work for me.

That's not to say that If I stumble on £1500 that I might not splash out and have one of each :p

I should have a 30D in the post today , £599 inc kit lens is to much of a bargain (and it's a nice upgrade from a 300D) :)

Mine is an upgrade from a 300D, cannot wait to get my hands on it, im expecting it to be a big improvement on the 300D,

Is the viewfinder any bigger/brighter on the 30D compared to the 350D?

Matt

Do you mean the viewfinder? Or the screen? The screen is much bigger, I haven't checked to see whether the viewfinder is brighter.

The viewfinder. I find the 350D too small to focus properly, or frame the picture accurately.

Matt

I'm a bit puzzled by this. The viewfinder shows at least 95% of the final image. I don't see how you could possibly make the image any bigger
