Basicaly, I want my internet connectivity wired to my computer for obvious reasons due to wireless being inferior in quality and such. It will probably take 30 metres of ethernet cable to connect my PC to my router as there are no working ports in my house. I wanted to know if I should get a cheap £3.20 one or an 'Extreme' one as they say :D should I be bothered with brands and what would you recommend? Thank you to all helpful replies in advance :)

In regards to cable? Just make sure its at least CAT5 that will be fine for your use. Most ethernet cabling is CAT5 or CAT5e nowadays anyway.

what does that mean and whats the difference between CAT5 and CAT5e?

Cat 5e is better quality, and will support gigabit connections for longer distances (up to 100m). At 30m you could probably do gigabit over Cat5, but since you only need to connect to your router and probably only need 100Mb/s it's not a big deal.

I've never noticed much difference with different brands of cat 5.

Try to get one described as 'snagless', the little tabs are a nightmare for catching on things if you're pulling them through gaps.

Another option might be to get some cat5, a crimp tool and some plugs (or a punch down tool and some wall sockets).
