32 bit os and ram

im just wondering but is it possible to have more than 2gb of ram in a 32 bit os, say maybe 3gb or would i have to get the 64 bit version of the os ?

thank you for info, just ordered my self two packs of these , ill use all 4gb when xp64 can run battlefield 2142
