Basically money is really tight for me atm but I can afford £30. My question is basically, is it gonna get cheaper?

and will I notice a difference on my 2.1 C2D 1gb macbook? I just use it as a downloader, web browseing, email thats it really.

why dont you just get 2 gigs? 2 gigs is enough for doing what you do. unless you do a lot of rendering work

I noticed the difference straight away from going from 1gb to 4gb just web browsing and using iTunes. Just felt more snappy and alert.

From a fresh boot of 10.5.5 my macbook is using about 850mb of RAM and thats before i've started opening anything. Comes in handy also if you want to run VMware with XP or something.

Do it if you can afford to. Doubt it would get cheaper, i paid £45 about a year ago so its dropped quite a bit already.

I have gone from 1gb to 4gb with my macbook which is the same spec as yours. As someone mentioned, it does feel more snappier and a bit more responsive.

Although I am not pushing the mac at the moment (just using for web browsing & some light photo editing), it should come into it's own when I start to use VMWare.

I don't think the prices will get that much cheaper.
