Hi all,

Im after some opinions on my Samsung 32" LCD TV. I noticed the problem when watching a DVD in a dark room and viewing dark scenes or a black background. Here are the pictures:

I took it back to the store where i purchased it from (its only 5 days old). The engineer tested it close to the main door with plenty of natural light hitting the screen. We were unable to see the problem in these conditions. I mentioned that the problem is only visible in a much darker room and he refused to exchange the TV. I have now rang for an engineer to come to my home to see the problem.

The pictures you see really emphasis the problem but definitely shows light seeping through more in some places than others. I also compared it next to a mates 46" Samsung TV and you can really see the difference.

Would you regard this as a faulty TV? Thanks in advance.

Without a doubt.

I think if you have the space you should stick with a decent CRT TV, infinitely better black. : )

Thanks. Just needed another opinions on this. The store seems very reluctant to do anything about it. When i spoke on the phone, the guy said hes never heard of backlight bleeding. Thats poor customer service. Thanks again.

I don't own a LCD TV myself. But in your position however I would contact the manufacturer directly. If you want further advice head over to the AVForums.

Look at this thread complaining of backlight bleed, pales in comparison to yours.

Most lcd screens suffer from back light bleeding to some extent but yours is very bad judging from the pics. What does it look like just displaying a black screen? I would demand a replacement from the shop dont take no for an answer. What tv is it? What settings are you using?, if there is a backlight option turn it down to 50% or so. Look on avforums for the optimum settings for you tv it might make a big difference.
This is why i sold my lcd and went for a plasma.

Same when displaying a back screen. I have already used avforums to find optimal settings and still the same. On the pictures you see the backlight option is set to 4 (0=lowest,10=highest). If i set it to zero, it does fade but still visible. I am strongly considering doing the same and exchanging it for a plasma. Thanks for your reply.
