Hello,

Looking at getting a new monitor and a little bit lost in the monitor jungle and really unsure what to get.

In terms of use:
- Due to now WFH it will be used heavily for work (multiple excel, word and PDF docs)
- As it will be in spare room I want to also use it to watch films & sport when my partner is using the main TV
- I am currently deciding whether to get an Xbox X or a PC (If I go down the PC route I think my budget will only stretch to a 3060 TI) so it will be used to play games.

Budget:
Ideally I would like to only spend between £350 - £500. However, I am keen to get a decent screen that will last me some time so if there is a significant benefit to be had I could stretch the budget to £800 and save elsewhere.

Screen Size:
I must admin this is the area I am really struggling to nail down... I am keep looking at 27", 32" and 34" widescreen.

I was pretty set on getting a 27" screen but thought this will quickly feel small and possibly frustrating to watch films and play games on. My current desk is 120cm x 60cm so I think a 32" / 34" will be okay and is the right option in terms of what I want to use if for and not causing neck issues due to size. Welcome your thoughts and suggestion and happy to reconsider 27" screen if that is a better option.

Possible Screens I am considering:

34"

LG 34GN850 @ £798 (is it really worth the extra?)
AOC CU34G2X @£459
LG 34GL750-B @£348

32"
LG 32GP850 @ £448
LG 32GN600 @ £248

Thanks

At that distance 27" wouldn't be bad.
Remember that actual panel surface will be around 15cm closer to you than rear edge of the table/wall.

Don't have a monitor currently. Just moved back to the UK so it will be a complete new setup.
Ah cool. I was using a piece of an Ikea countertop as a desk for a few months last year and found my 27" monitor to be perfect for it. I remember thinking I wouldn't fancy using a larger screen on it though (the counter was 62.5cm deep I think). I'm sure others will have different experiences, and that size desk is very popular so it may be perfect for you no matter the size of display you end up with.

Ultrawide! If you’re running with multiple documents on screen at the same time you’ll appreciate the extra width believe me!

The stands tend to be large so I’d also recommend a desk arm. Frees up a lot of space and usually the screen can be a good few inches further back than on the stand.

So something like the AOC CU34G2X?

I’d always prefer IPS but the newer VA screens are supposedly very good. I can’t really comment about that screen, I have an Alienware AW3418DW which was nearly £1,000 new lol. I’m sure there will be reviews around.

We have a sofa a few metres back from the desk, so if I was to sit back on this and say, for example, watch a film would a curved screen be okay i.e. the LG 34GN850LG or CU34G2X?

My parents have a 24" screen which is 20 cm away from the desk and this screen feels very small.

A good suggestion. I did look at the LG 4WN780-B but I believe the Hz will cause issues when playing games?
