Sorry possibly a question been asked numerous amounts of times before. If going for a new laptop, which would be better, 32bit or 64bit operating system?

Thanks

How much RAM are you planning on putting in it? If over 3gb, then go for 64bit, if under than 32bit.

wow quick reply. It's for someone off to college on an engineering course so possibly bit of cad work and guessing games. I know it's an Alienware one he's looking at

64.

I can count on one hand how many apps I've come across that dont like 64. And the only one I really miss (which is a genuine real shame, as there is no direct alternative available), is Sygate (free) personal firewall.

go 64bit. Same as above I've only come across a few apps that have problems with 64bit. Could always do what I do, use virtual pc or equivlent to run a 32bit os for troublesome ones.
