i just got my order in for a 939 4800+ from overlockers...

will i see a small difference, a good difference, a shcoking difference....

whats the benefits...

Any advice or feelings would be appriciated!

Matt.

should be a bit quicker in normal use, i would say it will be noticeable. you will see a massive differance in any multitasking of any kind, even simple things like opening an itnernet page whiel doing a spyware scan :)

you wont see much of a difference in most things, unless you do 2 heavy tasks at the same time, cd ripping and anti-virus scans, or dvd ripping, encoding, etc, simple tasks like browsing, etc will be the exact same, make sure you install the latest drivers, hotfixes, and the dual core optimiser, ive had no problems with source after installing the optimiser, before i would only have a problem once every 20 times i played it, where it would stutter when using two cores

I've not got the optimiser installed and haven't had any stuttering. I was under the impression that you only needed it if you used cool 'n' quiet?

is that 3200 barton core or 64?

im thinking about going from a 3200 barton to a 4800x2 this week, is it worth it or am i better off going for a cheaper single core?

will notice a very big difference when just using the machine. 2 cores make the pc just seem a lot smoother running wise.

I didn't notice any differance betwen my 3200+ and the 4800+, i'm so disappointed that i'm going to put back my old processor.

My advice if your doing a lot of multi tasking it worth it, if not save your money or but a new graphics card.

Windows itself is a multi-tasking OS, so a dual core will be faster in everything. Granted under heavier use it'll be instantly noticeable.

If you think the single core is identical you don't have it setup right.

To save any more arguments:

To me my system does not seem any quicker than when i had my 3200+ in it. I do not multi-task, i don't unzip large winrar files, I don't convert large file. I play games some times.

I was hoping for a BIG improvment in everything, and i am disapointed, hence going to sell it.

Aye I was going to buy one of those as well but did a lot of research on the Net and for games it's not that much for a big jump for me.

I play a lot of quake 4 and I went from a 3200+, to a 3700+, to a 4400 x2 and there's QUITE a lot of difference when multicore support is enabled.

For normal singlethreaded games there won't be too much of a difference.
