Now, I'm no expert in gibberish, but that says 265BHP, 'still verry faster than your normal 5 speed msd' apparently, WTF is an MSD?

The MSD models are tweaked versions, with the work carried out by an old tuning company called Motor Sport Developments in Milton Keynes, although I'm not sure if they're still there, or have moved on (or gone altogether).

They got some new trim, alloys, usually a bodykit, reprofiled cams and a few other bits and bobs - about an extra 25bhp up on the standard model.

Stand to be corrected on any of the above. Been a long time since I've read anything about them, I looked into it ages ago because Vectra parts kept coming up when I was looking for ignition bits :D

that car used to belong to one of our drivers sons, swinton was the surname so it ll be in the log book.

car was and is an utter shed!

So, it has an F28 calibra turbo gearbox. A gearbox only rated for 280nm of torque. Oh dear.....

The standard engine fitted to the Cavalier and Calibra Turbos may only produce 280nm of torque but the Getrag 6 speed gearbox that was fitted to them could handle quite a bit more than that.

Really, because the gearbox code is actually the recommended maximum torque throughput. In this case F28, being 280Nm of torque. Now I'm not saying it can't handle more than this, we all know it can, but it's likely to be short lived.

I knew (as it was a few years ago) of quite a few running a lot more than that. Bearing in mind that the standard output for the 2.0 Turbo engine was 280nm, it would be silly for Vauxhall to use a gearbox that is rated to the exact max power of their standard engine.

Aside from the transfer box for its 4WD, the drivetrain for the turbo'd Cav/Calibras was very very tough and actually over-engineered. For example, the rear differential was the same one they used on the Holden Commodore 4.0 V8's

Edit: are you sure about the rating system as, according to other sources, the "28" equates to 280lb/ft and not nm which would make a lot more sense given the standard output of the engine it was mated to
