Ok so I am building a new sys.
Q6600
4GB PC8500
8800gtx.

What operating system is the most suitable? I have a MSDN account so price isnt an issue.

Cheers,

Paul.

Gathering its 64Bit, if you are asking whether to go XP or Vista, then Go for Vista.
Its getting better everyday.
My own choice however is XP64 as its faster in every test I have done bar a small few.

64bit if you want to use all that RAM

You can use it all, but you will gain nothing from it compared to 32bit Windows. To make use of 64bit you need more than 4gig.

Apps on 64bit OS's use much more memory than on 32bit so all the space you just gained by moving to 64bit you just lost again because the higher memory allocation of a 64 byte.

Hello NinjaPaul, Windows Vista 64-bit without a shadow of a doubt. Unless you specifically know that the programs that you use will have problems then there is really no reason to even contemplate weather to go for either 32-bit or 64-bit.

Now, regardless of the amount of physical memory that you have, providing it's more than 1GB, though I'll suspect that the majority people on these forums have at least 2GB of RAM anyway, 64-bit is just a much better platform all together, it is securer, more stable and generally faster and not to mention the memory capabilities. :)

Hello unclebob123, have a read through this article here. It really explains the advantages of a 64-bit platform other than the memory capabilities.
