32bit to 64bit?

what do you gain from using 64bit vista? is performance improved over the 32bit environment?
are the programs more compatible across the boared now and is it worth using if i have a 64bit cpu?

No speed increases.
Just allows you to use 64bit programs, higher amounts of memory and a few other gubbins. .
