I am about to order some new PC components that include the i7 8700k and a new Mobo. Of course this means I will need new RAM. I automatically added 32GB of RAM but I've heard (and read on here) that I probably won't need it.

I play a lot of Sim Racing games in VR such as rFactor2 and Assetto Corsa. It would be nice to play more games such as Battlefield. I also do 3D rendering on 3DS Max.

This is not going to be an overclocked PC, I want it to be quick as stock. I was looking at 32gb of Corsair Dominator DDR4 3000mhz. But if I don't really need that much then I can save some money and put it towards my GPU fund.

Thanks

I just googled "how much memory does 3d rendering on 3ds max need" and I get the following:

While the exact amount of RAM you need is going to depend on your particular projects, for 3ds Max we generally recommend a minimum of 16GB. Very complex scenes may need up to 32GB of RAM, although it is rare for 3ds Max to require more than 32GB.

So it would seem 32gb is about right.
