32GB ram for Ryzen build

Hi All I'm currently speccing out a Ryzen build, probably based on a B350 MB as I won't
be using 2 x GPU's. I want to end up with 32GB ram running around 3000 Mhz and was
wondering if I could achieve these speeds with 4 x 8GB sticks or if I should spend more
up front for 2 X 16GB sticks?

Would be much better for me to start with 2 x 8GB and then add two more 8GB down the road
but only if I can maintain 3000-3200 ram speeds.

Any advice appreciated..

I got G.SKILL F4-3200C14D-16GTZR Trident Z RGB Series 16 GB (8 GB x 2) DDR4 3200 MHz CL14 Dual Channel Kit and it ran @3200 no problem, just changed the XMP/DOCP to 3200 and it worked. I then added a second kit and am running @2666 now as its harder to get 4 stick to run above 2666. I would have preferred 2*16GB but could not find any 3200 Trident Z RGB kits. Things might get better after the May memory compatibility update.

No one knows if 2 x 16GB or 4 x 8GB will be more compatible with high DDR4 speeds. It may never be possible for Ryzen.

Going off non-Ryzen platforms, 2 sticks have always been better than 4 in terms of compatibility.

The problem is, dual ranked has a significant disadvantage at the moment. So 2x16GB and 4x8GB will give pretty similar results at the moment.

Things might get better after the next AGESA update in May.

I'm using 4x8GB @ 2666MHz 14cl

Has anyone managed to find a 32gb kit that runs @ 3200mhz for ryzen yet? Been looking all over and it seems like only the 16gb kits can get this speed.

Actually, according to pcgameshardware.de and golem.de, in terms of frame rate in games: 2400MHz dual ranked RAM performs between 2666MHz and 3200MHz single ranked RAM and 2666MHz DR is approximately equivalent to 3200MHz SR.

See: http://www.pcgameshardware.de/Ryzen-5-1600X-CPU-265842/Tests/R5-1500X-Review-Mainstream-1225280/3/ and https://www.golem.de/news/ram-overc...-von-ddr4-3200-und-dual-rank-1704-127262.html

F1 2015, AC Syndicate and DA:Inquisition are actually faster on dual rank 2400MHz than 3200MHz single rank.

I'm surprised more people aren't talking about this considering that 2400MHz dual rank is guaranteed by AMD to work.

I was referring to clock speeds and overclocking. DR is weaker in that regard.

However, what you've posted is rather interesting to say the least.

That's really interesting... from what I know, pretty much all 2x16 kits are DR...
