WL66 arriving tomorrow.

I've not got any HD TV to feed it - but I do have a laptop and I'm thinking of attaching it via the D-sub conecter to show my wife some indication of picture quality.

Can some kind person direct me at some HD content that is worth showing off !

Cheers !

I assume that if i connect my laptop via the d-sub I just have to set the 'external' monitor to be [size=-1]1366 x 768 and just play the content full screen ?

Is it that easy ?

Yes it is, the only good content apart from trailers are legally questionable rips from TV broadcasts.

Yay - it's turned up.

Initial thoughts are that analogue content is slightly 'sharper' than on the old TV but that the artifacts on any digital source (HD recorder and DVD) are more noticable.

Still got lots of fine tuning options to play with.

I've tried to hook my laptop up to the TV and it seems to work fine except that windows media player (V9) plays the 720p content I downloaded as a 16:9 block in the middle of the screen with black borders all the way round. The media file reports as 720x1280 so should surely fill the screen - ant pointers to tips or players would be fab !

How do you set it to 1366x768?

My investigations show that you can't. You may be able to use powerstrip and set up a custom resolution. It has got something to do with the EDID in the TV reporting an incomplete set of resolutions back to the TV.

The other way is to use a DVI to HDMI cable and drive it that way.

My thinking is that putting 1280x1024 to the TV over a D-Sub (analogue) cable is the next best thing to a true 720p resolution as the TV will have to digitise it anyway....

DVI to HDMI would sort this out as it would be an all digital connect.

You should be able to use Powerstrip or the ATi catalyst works too. I've got my Tosh 32 via d-sub set using catalyst and it works great.

One problem though when viewing uk tv in PAL - the d-sub in on the Tosh (and I think many other LCD tvs) only accepts 60HZ input so when watching live broadcasts you do see a bit of judder.

set the refresh to 85hz i think, it will then fit properly at 1366 x 768, this works using the vga input anyway.
