3300x or 3600 - value choice

So I'm looking at getting a zen 2 CPU soon as all of the zen 3 ones are out of my range for now. Currently using an intel g4560.

Was thinking about the 3600, but can't help but think I might get everything I need from a 3300X. I don't game heavily, just a bit here and there and even then not hugely fussed about frame rates on my 1080p. I have a rx590 gpu. Just want a decent workhorse cpu that will last.

3300x has a cinebench score higher than the 3600 (probably because clock speeds are slightly higher), and with 4 cores and 8 threads should be ample for me on that front too. Is there some other downside I'm not seeing? They have the same max TDP so no tradeoff there even.

At 70 quid cheaper - that's 65% of the price! - with better single thread performance, it seems like the way to go?

Would be buying with a B550M motherboard so I could always beef up when future zen 3 SKUs appear if needed.

Sorry, sure- I feel that more cores will give greater longevity into the next gen of console releases (which will use 7 of their 8 Zen 2 cores for running games).

That's just my opinion though. 3300X is a nice value choice in the here and now.
 
I was debating 3300x or 3600, and went for secondhand 3600 in the end. Didn’t want to wait for 3300x.
 
a bargain £90 on ebay, untested. Took a gamble, paid off nicely as the cpu works perfectly.

Value for money the 3600 is the better choice and with a little overclock could reach the higher clock speed of the X,XT.

Your probably talking a few more fps performance with he xt in gaming at 1080p.

The 3600X and XT are a small fraction ahead on performance but a large fraction above in price. Not a value choice.
 
If buying new the Intel 10400f is also a great budget option, with a reasonably priced B460 board. You can can get a board/CPU/16GB RAM combo for <£270, get the right board and you'll be able to enable max turbo permanently, for 4.3GHz all core, and it'll only pull a few more watts than the 3600, so no cooling issues.
 
I built my daughter a system in September....I had a 3300x pre ordered at £120 for nearly 2 months with no sign of it ever turning up.

In the end I cancelled and went with a 3600x that was priced at £175 at the time on the rainforest site. no one would price match it for me. it was only 6 quid more than the 3600, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered going for the x

Can't believe the 3300x is still unavailable. Was this a ghost launch? Did AMD only make enough to give to the tech tubers so they could rave about what a great budget CPU it is?
