Hi all,

As some of you may know i am in the market for a new car and have currently looked at hot hatches like the Focus ST and will have a look at the possibility of a 350Z too.

But for now i am looking at others options being the BMW 330ci and was wondering what kind of running costs these come with. With BMW i think they will cost a fair bit to service and heard they can eat tyres and what kind of mpg would i expect for pootling around B roads and town?

Any help appreciated.

Many thanks :)

Fuel consumption wise you can expect 20-25mpg for that sort of usage, rising to over 30mpg on long distance trips.

Servicing is roughly every 12-18k and costs circa £200 for an Oil Service, £300 for an Inspection I and £400 for an Inspection II.

Services alternate between 1 and II with an oil service between each one.

Tyres are about £500 for a set, rear tyres will last approx 15k depending on the way you drive.

They are Group 17 insurance.

Cheers Fox, thats not overly bad i guess but £400 for a service is :o

How would you compare it to a Focus ST in terms of driving/ownership etc.

Finding the right car is a tough choice, going to look at a 350Z soon too but not sure i could live with having 2 seats, hmm.

The £400 is once every 45k ish, so it's not so bad at all. Depends on how many miles you do as to whether or not this is expensive!.

Unless you are absolutely desperate for the Coupe bodystyle the 330i tends to offer better value so you can get a newer or higher specification car for your money.

Also saloon facelift was earlier than Coupe - a 2002 Saloon is facelifted yet a 2002 Coupe has the old front end.

I can comment on the Focus, servicing is 12.5k on the dot, tyres cost £165 for a set of fronts, fronts last 10-14k, depending on what sort of driving you do.Rears will last 30k, mine has 44k on it, and nothing has gone wrong at all, and scouring the ST forums doesnt dig up any nasty common problems.

Brakes will last 35k too.Overall its cheap as a Ford should be, its not as high quality as 330 inside tho, seats are great as is the dash, but there are some cheap plastics in there, as are some rattles, but that might be down to me driving the car like a tit:p

However, the petrol consumption on an ST is something like 21mpg avg right?

I could live with 24mpg, my mini cooper s averaged around 27.5 so not a major difference. How many miles do you get out of a tank and roughly how much does it cost to fill up? I heard the ST's tank is quite small?

For me, if i stick religeously to 70mph on the M-Way, i get around 33mpg, with my normal style of driving (80-95mph) i get 27-29, around town 24mpg, any less than that and tbh your driving the car like a tit everywhere! Its got a very addictive exhast note tho, which cant be good for self control:p

Wanna buy my pre face lift 12/2002 :D

BM warranty until Sept 08 52k miles on it

Currently on 320 on one tank with just under quarter left
