How much am i looking at for a good quality 34" ultrawide?
Im currently using a cheap samsung 24" (well 23.9" or something)
Was tempted to wait and get 4k but its apparently my new rig wont be able to handle that at a decent quality/fps, i cant have a multi monitor setup for lack of space so the real estate of the 34" ultra wides ive seen on here seems really good.
Im fairly clueless on monitor specs except for the basics, its not something ive ever looked into so if someone could recommend me a good model from OC i know how much to start saving up for. It'll be used mostly for gaming

*edit* just realised i've put 34# instead of 34" in the title

Dell U3415W for the curved panel
AOC U3477PQU if you want to go flat and save some bucks.

They both run @60Hz, panels from LG, which has its own too but in both cases (curved and flat models) I'd personally suggest the ones above for *reasons*

In August there will be the Acer Predator XR341 which will run @75Hz with gsync/freesync but expect a ludicrous pricetag (1000£ not sure if confirmed yet)

I've just been looking at the Dell and thought it looked pretty good but i didnt realise flat screens would be cheaper than curved, so tbh i would probably rather go for one of them to save some cash

Not really like for liek though, the AOC is the cheap man's Dell :P

Can't recommend the DELL. Went through 3 of them and they ALL had issues with the panel in one way other another.

QC isn't there on these panels yet, its a huge lottery.

Hey Warmmachine, for gaming i think the U3415 is amazing tbh, but ive replaced it from a dell ultrasharp 3000 wfp which cost me £1300 quid and despite being good its not quite got the same saturation levels...in short im just massivley fussy and so used to my old monitor colours over the last 5 years im struggling to get used to it and im going to go for a UP3214Q instead at £1300

i think this review puts it perfectly when it says its the best 21:9 monitor out but its not perfect http://www.digitaltrends.com/monitor-reviews/dell-ultrasharp-u3415w-review/

But put it this way, it will be a HUGE jump from your cheap samsung you mentioned :)

add me on skype liambeale77 mate i cant PM you on here

I read that. As a designer you really should be using a calibrator, trying to do it manually just... isn't going to work. I wouldn't blame the monitor on that.

Maybe for getting them industry correct but doing manually has always been fine on my other ultrasharps the colour accuracy just isnt there plain and simple, it just lacks the saturation levels in comparison. no amount of editing can change that. If you saw them both side by side you would understand as i have shown others. It is a massive shame.

Problem is arent you comparing monitors covering a different gamut range?

Your old dell covers 102% of the NTSC colour space and will make all colours look over saturated and vivid if that is not the output you require. I the the 21:9 dell only covers 72% from memory.

You can't call it accurate when you're doing it by hand because what is accurate to you is just what is pleasing to your eye, not necessarily accurate. Remember that.

Also the 3008 WFP is extended gamut, so you cannot compare an sRGB gamut monitor to an extended gamut one. In fact, if you've been making content for sRGB you've been working in the completely wrong colour space all these years and all your stuff was way over saturated!

ROFL thanks for your opinion Tepnos !! i was doing it by hand yes but the inaccuracy comment wasnt my own view or opinion it was from various sources such as reviews have said about it.

I wouldnt say "way" over saturated, that would depend on the saturation of the colours i was using, and maybe i have been using the wrong colour space all these years lol but to be honest i dont get any complaints from my graphic design work in fact quite the opposite :) with everyone having different screens and eyes i suppose its relative to an extent but as mentioned its just what im used to.

No your right Greebo and i realise that now, i hold my hands up im not upto scratch with the ins and outs of gamut ranges etc i just made the assumption it would be the same as my other ultrasharps. Was why i asked for help on the forums before i shelled out for one of the more expensive screens. well that and i thought i may save a little money in comparison.

Anyway i apologise for this taking over your post WarmachineAaron.

My opinion is compared to your cheap samsung i think you would be happy with any of the monitors mentioned above, yes they have screen bleeding on really extreme cases of black etc (eg with the light off its very noticable) but other than that im sure the u3515w will impress and meet your needs. I tried Witcher 3 on it and it looked amazing :)
