I am very new to this screen resolution and i also have never had the need for sli, But i find myself in a position where by my current 780 ti and bf4 suddenly dont like each other with this new monitor running 3440x1440 res.

for the first time im seeing vram seemingly maxed out and my frame rates drop to sometimes below 30fps which to me is not enough.

now the question is, at that res how much vram is required? is 4gb enough?
I am in the process of looking at nvidia gtx 980s in sli, but will vram be an issue still?

All advice appreciated, also the log for gpuz says vram useage is a different amount to what that window above says, and that vram useage in the window above was like that all the time i was on bf4, it never dropped.

sorry meant to say i run with everything at max, dont usually like turning things down but i understand it may not be required at that res?

Drops to 30 at that res, wouldn't call it VRAM limitation rather you're at the limits of what the 780ti can do. If you're still running Windows 7, turn Aero off.

so its not a vram issue? but a card capability issue at that res. so adding a second ti to the mix would solve the problem? or would vram still be a limitation?

I don't know bud :(
I only run reg 1440 with my Ti, looking at 5760 and 4k benchmarks BF4 doesn't seem to choke the VRAM on the Ti, and both of those have more pixels than your res.

You're only running 20% higher than 1600p afterall ;)

3440x1440 is a big ask for any card, it's a 34% increase in pixels over 2560x1440 and is not the target of driver optimisations in the same way as it's not a common res.

You are, per MSI AB, hitting vram limits, but I don't think going to a 970 or 980 is the cure for you as it's only 33% more vram (so, in a way, equivalent to 2560x1440 with 3gb) and you'll only hit the 4gb limit in a few months with new games. I hit it today at 1440p with Mordor for example, you will hit it with more games due to the higher res.

Personally I think your best bet is either one of the 8GB 290x cards, or wait for big maxwell. I wouldn't sidegrade to a 970/980 now. I think you really need 2 cards for that resolution too.

Or, you need to accept you can't max everything out :(
