Hi,

My brother lives next door and he commonly complains about having only 3 bars in CoD whereas on the same server I have 4. I had just assumed it was his GF or a phone downloading something and affecting his ping.

Well the other day I got him to turn everything off in the house that uses the network and to start his PC up in safe mode, and ping Google.co.UK -t

His ping on average is nearly twice as high as mine!

Next door neighbours (he is the other half of the semi detached)
Same broadband provider and package
Think it is identical routers (need to double check)
Ruled out other network devices effecting the average ping

Is it most likely his wiring is older? Have we missed something?
What are the best things to do to resolve this?

Thanks for reading and Merry Christmas :)

Are you comparing wired v wireless?

Your brother needs to email/call sky and ask for his Broadband to be switched to a gaming profile. They should turn interleaving off on his connection which in theory will lower ping with the expense of supposedly slightly less stability.

Less stability as in the internet could keep dropping out? or is that really unlikely?

Never heard of it, but it sounds promising! He only cares about the internet for gaming, not downloading or streaming video.

I think if I said ring Sky and ask for a gaming profile he would jizz in his pants at the thought of it haha!
