Hi All,

As per the title really. My kid wants a laptop to play Planet Zoo and I only have a budget of around £350. So happy with second hand/ refurbished. The minimum specs are below (taken from https://www.frontierstore.net/planet-zoo.html):

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 7 (SP1+) / 8.1/10 64bit
  • Processor: Intel i5-2500 / AMD FX-6350
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 (2GB) / AMD Radeon R9 270X (2GB)
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Storage: 16 GB available space

I am pretty out of touch with graphics cards nowadays. I know that the GTX770 is around 10 years old so I am guessing that a laptop from the past 5 years or so would be fine. But that said, I don't know how I would compare the spec of a 5 year old laptop to that minimum spec above!

So would appreciate any help and/or recommendations

Thanks in advance

"Minimum requirements" just means the game runs, it'll be utter garbage.

Aim for "recommended requirements" for a reasonable experience, otherwise you're just throwing £350 quid away.

Steamdeck is a good call otherwise a laptop from a few years ago (Maybe a 9th gen i5 with Geforce 10 series) should be attainable for your budget. There are a few with 1650 GPU available on the bay.

Came in to say a Steam Deck. It can be connected to a monitor or TV at home, is obviously portable and will be good enough to run a lot more when they want new games. I guess the only issue is whether it is too large for them depending on their age.

Edit: Hang on, not all games work on Steam desk. It's worth checking first.

I'm afraid it looks like your choices are limited with that budget. As has already been mentioned it might be worth checking out Steam Deck, providing of course the game functions correctly. If not then you'll definitely want to be looking into second hand laptops.
