I'm looking to upgrade my current gaming system, i need cpu/mobo/ram. I'd like some help on getting the best for my money, i've read that the i5 is better than the AMD equivalent but i've also read a lot of people say that AMD feels "smoother" in games and also amd is more future proof than Intel. Obviously I'm after something that overclocks well but I'd also like the option to crossfire in the future if need be.

amd phenom 2 Black edition 965 3.4ghz @ £135
Asrock motherboard M3A790GXH/128M AMD AM3 DDR3 ATX @ £84
G-Skill 4GB Ripjaws DDR3 PC16000-2000Mhz Cas9 Kit @ £85
300ish

I just got very similar, and am rather happy with it, should hold its own for a few years, and the memory has the <potential> to be future proof, if you wanted to spend more just upgrade the motherboard- extra 50 should see you with something very nice. Intel chips just seem too much and the 965 has been refined over a long period.

Never gonna crossfire, just seems a bit much to me.

As for oc, the new 965 runs at lower wattage and as an utter novice overclocker, 3.8ghz wasnt a problem at all.

Fair play on the rest of the set up, noob talking here but surely phenon 955 vs phenon 965 125 watt version- you are talking 0.3 ghz difference if you know how to overclock (I am talking reasonable and stable here, nothing crazy... 965s can and have been shown in these forums to hit 4.0 nicely...)...965 might not have dirt 2, but a processor is for life, a game is for christmas- and with less than ten pounds difference...
