Hey Guys...

To be honest I'm pretty lost on monitors these days. I'm looking to switch to a 2 monitor set-up and retire my AOC G2460PG 24" 1920x1080 TN G-Sync 144Hz 1ms to be the 2nd monitor. I've got ~£350 and could probably go ~£400.

Guts of my system is Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER + Team Group Dark T-Force 16GB + CORE I7-9700K 3.6GHZ (COFFEE LAKE) ..so i have some grunt.

I don't want to go bigger than 27", tbh the 24" on my desk is about the right size. I love wracking the detail up on games and so not convinced 4k gaming is worth it if I lose that (happy to be convinced otherwise). Games wise recently we're talking World War Z, Doom Eternal, Call of Duty Modern Warfare...that sort of thing.

Looking for something really crisp, nice colours, no motion blur and will have some legs...99% gaming focused. Any recommendations?

Also feel free to recommend something not currently in-stock...COVID-19 has really put a dent in availability from what I can see (and probably hiked prices).

Cheers

nice colours = IPS or buying a calibrator and calibrating the monitor.

IPS aren't suited to gaming really. well not online twitch shooters like cod.

a calibrator costs about £170 if you want spot on colours. i have one and i would buy another if it broke. it turned my crappy looking TN into a spot on colour wise monitor as good as my IPS's i would say. most wouldn't be able to tell what tech it is now since calibration.

I have a Dell S2719DGF TN, AOC 24G2U5 IPS and an ASUS XG279Q IPS at hand.

The Dell is a very good monitor for gaming at around the £350 mark. Colours aren't as good as the IPS monitors of course but for a TN it's the best I have seen so far.

The AOC 24G2U5 has better colours but is a 75 Hz monitor. There is a 144 Hz version which should be amazing if this one is anything to go by. Stock seems unavailable at the moment for both but will only cost less than £200.

The Asus XG279Q is more expensive. I got it for less than £600 but is hands down the best monitor I have used to date.

It is an IPS with very good pixel response time. I can't tell the difference between it and the Dell.

Colours are very rich in gaming modes, contrast is excellent with decent black level. It goes up to 170 Hz.

I would recommend all of these monitors to anyone playing twitch shooters. I play modern warfare on all of them without issue.

I had that Dell and I came from a calibrated Dell IPS previously to it. As dell to calibrate some of their screens before shipping and provide a certificate and lots of info on how accurate that specific panel is, etc.

The colours were honestly horrific and I was planning on selling it. I instead decided to buy a calibrator and boom it was spot on thereafter.

If anyone is serious about colours buy a calibrator. If mine broke tomorrow it would be replaced. It's 100% worth it.

I really should invest in a calibrator as I have 6 monitors in the house. Only 2 of them came with a factory calibration and a certificate and looked decent out of the box.

IPS smashes VA in consistency of response times, because of lacking darker transition problems.
And LG's latest IPS tech actually fully challenges average TNs.

Do it you will be amazed at how good TN looks after a proper calibration
What calibrator did you get?
Are these easy to use or do you still need a really good eye for these things?
Think it would be good to buy one for my Samsung monitor and then possibly buy a dell

can you use them on tv’s? I have an LG OLED I wouldn’t mind being able to do too.

x-rite colormunki

monitors is a doddle you download displaycal and follow the step by step instructions. a 12 year old could do it. then it makes a profile for you and your done.

tv's is much harder you need different software and you need to do it all manually.
