As the title says I'm looking to get myself a new monitor and I'm struggling with what to choose.

My budget is £350 but I can stretch to the £400 mark if it's really worth it.

At the moment I'm considering
  • LG Ultragear 27GL83A-B 27
  • Dell S2721DGFA (little about £350 but I can get discount via work)
I'm also possibly considering an ultrawide but I'm not sure if any of them would be good.

Primary use case would be gaming and working from home.

PC specs
3700x, 3080 & 16b ram so 4k could be an option but I think 1440p is a sweet spot

The Dell goes on offer all the time for under £300. It’s my current monitor and I like it, definitely not the best 1440p out there but for the price I paid it was a bargain.

Anything you'd recommend over it?

not that I’ve personally used, I tend to base my reviews on hardware unboxed. They say it’s a mid range 1440p but the price reflects that, Dell seem to lower the price every 2-3 week and if you get 15% of from your work place it’s makes it a very good price.

The Dell can definitely be had for sub £300, I used hotukdeals to alert me when it went in offer last time.

Just bought an Acer Nitro XV322QU for 349 USD on sale. Seriously impressed so far (one day usage). Seems like it will be excellent for gaming AND work. It has a blue light mode as well which is nice.

Display looks stunning, and stand is fantastic. Even has a remote come with it :)

4k could be an option
Not for that budget, unless staying at 60Hz.
100+ Hz 4K monitors have hefty premium.

27GL83A-B is really rather basic monitor with old lowest common denominator sRGB gamut.

Also LG made panel in Dell is step up model with DCI-P3 gamut.
But for some inexplicable reason contrast of these 27" 2560x1440 "Nano-IPS" panels is from dozen+ years ago.
So you would need to maintain good room illumination to mask it.

MSI would have some AU Optronics panel models with 40+% higher contrast.
Though stand of G273QF has very little adjustments.

In a shocking turn of events my dell monitor finally got dispatched so hopefully it gets here soon and isn't too delayed with these storms

I know I'm a bit late, but I'm going to still going to say that I would've went with the ASUS VQ289Q 28", it was £280 a few weeks ago.
Hopefully you're happy with the monitor you get and it reaches your expectations :)
