£350 PC upgrade vs PS4?

if your case IS to small you could move all your kit into and OC the crap out of it, install your new SSD and GFX card and play the lovely games that come with it :)

but its alittle over your 500

Thanks for the suggestions. I have found a couple of GPU's that would fit, for example, XFX Radeon HD 7950 3GB, and Club 3D Radeon HD 7950 "Royal King" (Is there any other kind of king?, lol).

I'm probably sold on the cooler though.

I don't think I'll be buying another case unless it's absolutely necessary.

P.S I wish they'd show bloody GPU dimensions on the store pages I've looked at. It's a pretty important spec after all.

I've also found Newegg pretty handy for comparing cards. They show the dimensions too.

So far I've also found on there,

Sapphire 100351SR Radeon HD 7970 3GB

Diamond Radeon HD 7970 PE53GV2

MSI Radeon HD 7970 Twin Frozr OC boost TF 3G D5, etc etc.

Either way these will all fit, thank god.

I would probably just get the ps4 considering your specs. It won't be a massive difference to upgrade to a 7950 as you could probably already play a significant amount of games on high and you'd benefit from playing games that are exclusive to ps4/console.

True, but I don't want two boxes, If you know what I mean? I pretty much do everything on a PC now. What can I say about Pc gaming? Once you've seen those visuals, it's kind of hard to go back. How about one of my 7970 options above then?

There's no rush anyway, and I won't be upgrading everything at once.

even I am very biased but even I know the 7950 is probably the best card for the money, but theres something about AMD when displaying stuff on windows I don't like, it could be there drivers but its always been the same, hence I only go for Nvidia

if your motherboard can take an i5, buy one for like 100 if you can, sell your i3 to put towards it, then buy a gtx 670 ftw :)

I don't have an i5.

Sorry, I should have started a new thread instead of using this one. I know what you mean about AMD cards though. I just think we'll all benefit games-wise from them supplying Microsoft and Sony with their console architectures.

May I hijack this thread? :P

I'm basically in the same boat as the OP, and I'm just after ideas on how to proceed (overclocking vs upgrading, etc)

Here are my system specs.

Gigabyte 890gpa-ud3h mobo
Phenom II X6 1055T cpu @2.8ghz
Radeon 6850 GPU @1GB
4GB of RAM at 1333mhz
600W Corsair PSU

My original thoughts are to OC the CPU (haven't done it before though, :S) Obviously I'd need a new cooler.

New graphics card. I'm clueless about bottlenecking, and just how high to go in terms of a quality card. I'm quite interested in switching to Nvidia as far as a card goes, as I look the look of them in terms of drivers, and the graphics settings optimizing tech they have.

Budget-wise I would say 300 - 500 notes for the whole adventure, which would be the equivalent of what I'd be spending console-wise on "Next Gen."

P.S Of course there are other factors like getting an SSD, new PSU etc, upgrading the RAM, second monitor. But I'm not treating those as priorities right now.

Many thanks.

Get a nice clock on that 1055T :D I can talk you through 1055T :)

Thanks mate. I'll probably do it come September, obviously I'm hoping to stretch to 4ghz, or the high three's would be excellent.......hang on, I just noticed your sig, holy S$%^!

I'll keep you in mind man when I come to do it, definitely. What are you cooling it with at that speed?

Antec dark fleet, optimised for airflow over CPU and a corsair A50 :D
