£350 soft budget, used

412 + a few more quid on cables as the mobo is b-stock and sods law dictates haveing to run out and grab an odd cable here and there puts it a good 65 over budget :S BUT like bacon said it opens up a lot more options for upgrade down the road.

Decisions decisions :P

Not to blag your head even more but you could go with a AMD Phenom II X4 965 build for around 400 and it'd blow the i3 away as far as im concerned. Im useing a poxy athalon ii x4 640 atm and everything im playing is either maxed out or ultra and i spent pennies over 400 on mine

Head is totally blagged lol, but that's ok, keep it up, starting to learn more this way. I think I will probably end up being between the AMD PII x4 build or the i3... Could you recommend a build for around £400 for the AMD?

You'll have to source the phenom from elsewere mate ocuk dont sell it for some reason :( I'll pm you the site (publicly advertiseing the compatitions a bit of a nono i'd imagine)

But for the rest of the build.

Thats what i'd go for personally, i'll pm you were i found the phenom at a good price new.

Bacon wtf is your prob? Everything i say you condisend? I've made a **** up or two but gtfo off my back! Its already been said on here that the phenom is a better cpu the the FX equvilant, (cant find the thread) and again your going over budget, were not all kicking about with loads of spare cash. And on what planet does an i3 dual core beat a phenom quad? Clearly an intel fanboy. Yes intel are better than amd if you've the cash to spend.

Find your facts! Im not trying to jump on your back but when you start sprouting stuff... The i3 is the Phenom equivalent. While the Phenom has 4 cores the I3 is a dual core with hyperthreading but had a much higher IPC!

I don't know where you got the Phenom was faster than Piledriver but:

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/23?vs=700

Would like a word with you.

Ps. Don't know how I am going overbudget considering the 4300 is same price as an i3 setup and I know the Phenom isn't going to be much cheaper.

phenoms are going for 50/60quid on ebay. I got it from a post somwere in here that the phenom was better than the piledriver coz i was going to get a piledriver myself till i read it, and from tom's hardware with regards the i3. The i3 will perfom better on some things but as the guy wanted to play newer games (im guessing dx11 games) the phenom will out perform, and is easily overclocked. Obviously if i am wrong then i've got ****** sources? Just feels like everything i've said today you've eye on said the opposite its annoying as hell!

Yeh but thats for a used item. Your buying a CPU with no warranty and no garuntee it will work. An FX-4300 can be had for the same pricing second hand.

The i3 will outperform the Phenom on all single and dual threaded applications. In more modern games that use multiple threads then the i3 had hyperthreading which does make a difference.

Are you sure you didn't ask about Bulldozer chips? Piledriver is better than Phenom chips and have a higher overhead.

Trying hard to find the thread again :S Im pretty sure it was the piledriver. Non the less that site you put up clearly says the 4300 owns the phenom so im happy to admit i was wrong.
