AMD Phenom II X6 Six Core 1055T 2.80GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail
Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H AMD 890GX (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard
Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX4GX3M2A1600C9)

I am upgrading from 3Gb DDR ram, AGP graphics and dual core Athlon64. I need processor, graphics, memory and motherboard upgrades. Money as always is important.

Currently I have an HD3650 AGP card. Will the HD4290 onboard be comparable?

The above seems an economic upgrade path whilst giving some performance.

In future I will add graphics card and bigger disks

All comments please, andy.

Why not drop down the spec a little bit? 955 and a cheaper mobo to get some more money for something like a 4850?

I have always been an Abit person until now when they no longer exist, I will admit that I have always pushed the mobo spec as far as I can afford and likewise the processor. I am not a big game player but do a lot of math and analysis stuff with some coding. I only need to run my 24" screen at std res. I will probably go for ram instead if graphics is capable.
thanks, andy.
