hi im currently running a Winchester 3500+ amd chip and am sat here seeing these 4000+ are hitting over FX-57 speeds now, i know that if i brought this chip it may not hit the speeds others are reaching but if it did would you think it would be a sensible upgrade. I mainly use the computer for Battlefield 2 and other games . . . . . . My spec is the following;

CPU: 3500+ Winchester AMD
GPU: 1900XT ATI 512MB
MOBO: ASUS A8R-MVP
SOUND: CREATIVE SOUND BLASTER AUDIGY ZS PLATINUIM
RAM:GEIL 2GB DUAL CHANNEL

Thanks

Stav

do you actually find your current setup slow? i wouldnt upgrade to that as its such a small performance boast, instead spend the extra cash and get a x2 processor such as the 3800

Yeah with the price of the 4000+ at the moment I'd be tempted to say go for a 3800 X2 dual core if you think it would benefit your needs (encoding, a lot of multitasking. However, if you're gaming primarily then the clocked 4000+ would beat a 3800 X2 as most games are still single threaded, whether it'd be a huge upgrade from your 3500 I'm not sure.

I suppose if its not going to cost you a lot I'd probably give in and go for it personally. You may be better off waiting for a whole system upgrade to conroe to really make them most of your graphics card.

really, even if i reach 3.0Ghz i would not notice much difference?? surely thats a whole 1Ghz difference, i will also be water cooled so should meet that easily as i have read.

Why not try clocking your 3500? You'd most likely reach at least 2.6.

As zefan says, you could try clocking yours, I'd think a Ghz boost would definately unleash your GFX a bit more though :)

well i have clockers my cpu to

FSB: 233
Multipliyer: 11x

is there anything else i can tighten (ram) to enable a better clock? would a post of some images help? sorry am a total noob to this overclocking so any help needed thanks :)
