3500+ and GeIL Value

Mate told me that the geil value ram volts can go up rather high safely and in warrenty limits. So push ** ram to 2.9 and maybe you can get ** ram to run at 250mhz. Ive seen the reviews at geil site and seems to be doable well it is on the 2gb ddr400 dual channel.

ive had 273mhz out of a 512mb dual channel geil PC3200 value kit, and 240 stable 24/7, 249 for benchmarking max - if I run it at 250MHz then super pi gets errors with 2.85v going through.

Ive also got a 1024mb dual channel kit but that doesnt like above 230MHz, else it reboots itself, with 2.85v.

My Geil VAlue 2 x 1gig kit will do 235 at 2.95volts but as i said earlier, run it on a 333 divider and put your multi on 10 and you should be able to get 2.65ghz without to many volts through the CPU, using a 10 multi and a higher FSB will allow your Mem to run at about 228 giving you more bandwidth than currently.this will allow yo

I've found that my geil memory won't budge over its stock freq without crashing out.

I've managed to get 2.7ghz out of my Venice 3000+ with 300mhz FSB, with HT at 3x and ram set at 133mhz.

This is all on stock cooling, including stock HSF. I had to up my vcore up to 1.4v. So you can push a lot more out of your system even with this ram as long as you use the right dividers

I'm trying to push for a 312mhz on my FSB, but the extra vcore requires more beefy cooling.

Thats unusual for Geil. Have you upped the Volts and loosened the timings. As i said, mine does 235mhs at 2.5/3/3/7 on 2.95 volts

My Geil Value starts giving me trouble when approaching 220 on stock volts. So in an effort to keep everything stable, and not drop my divider any lower, i just knocked my overclock back to 2.5 from 2.6. I dont think Geil is the best for overclocking.

EDIT: Using the newer cpu-z it shows my HT Link to be 750, somebody told me to drop the HT Multi down to 3x when i hit 2.5ghz... would i be right in thinking the HT Multi will be fine at 4x @ 2.5 (FSB: 250)?

There is no performance hit between 750 and 1000.
Your Geil is fine at 2.9 Volts and that will allow your mem to run at 220 with your Htt at 265 but you may need to up your V Core a little.

The smallest amount your bios allows.
Geil Value is rated by Geil to run at up to 2.9V (or 2.95 , cant remember) and your CPU will go a fair bit more as long as your temps are within reason. Not sure on that chip but 60C on load is about the limit i think.
Mine has 1. 45V going through it but im on water and load temps never go above 40C.

Random Update:

Now running at 2.61GHz (under the AC Freezer 64 Pro) still on stock volts.

I'm debating whether to push for 2.7GHz or not, considering I can't afford to replace anything that may or may not die and that would leave me very very screwed :/

From what i remember, some of the Geil Value sets use the really quite good BH-5 chips..... I think mine did, but i didnt have the voltage options to use them.... if the serial code ends in BHDC, i think you have them.

So they should actualy clock ok....... but still not as nicely as proper overclocking ram!

2.6 on stock volts is very good, my 3700sd needs 1.55 to be stable at 2.65-2.7 but thats on water.
What temps are you getting under load.
I would drop the multi/use a divider and keep upping the FSB, this will take the RAM out of the equation, then run prime for an hour.
Just keep upping the FSB antil you hit a wall then up the volts by the smallest amount you bios will allow.
Keep going until temps go too high or extra volts dont give stability.
Not sure of the safe temps for your CPU but i think its its around 60C max under load.

(That's after being on at 100% load for about 36 hours)

I'm using Folding@Home as a stability test, as that is always running. Not thrown a single error or crash yet.

The RAM is still only at 186MHz so I don't think that will pose a problem until I get to about 250 on the FSB which would be 2.75GHz and it was fine at 224MHz before anyway, so I reckon it'll be ok on it's current divider

I would just keep raising the HTT and see when you start to get problems

You still on the stock voltage? my 3500+ venice does 2907MHz on 1.55v (1.53 SpeedFan) and upto 3246MHz for suicide shots...some of them overclock well and it looks like yours is no exception.
