Iv'e just built up the courage to atempt some overclocking on my AMD 3500 Venice by using the Gigabyte "easy tune" software supplied with my Gigabyte GA-K8N-SLI MB. This allows me to increase the CPU clock speed but dosn't allow me to change the RAM speed so every increase in CPU has the same effect on the RAM. The PC starts to lock up at 2.4 Clock speed, is this about right? or is the RAM causing the probs?. I assumed that I had to lower the RAM before upping the CPU any help appriciated.

When monitoring temps speedfan reads maybe core 44C but easy tune reads core 39C at the same time which is likely to be correct? What is the safe max load temp for a 3500?

Sorry about so many questions.

Cheers guys. Have decided to go with the bios route. In simple terms what do I set each value at to acheive 2.4? Would i leave the multiplyer at 11 and increase the FSB to 220? Do I first lower the RAM to 166?

Thanks for the help. This is what I'm going for. FSB 240, multi x10, RAM 166, HT x4. Any body see any issues before I go.

OK guys. Set it at 240fsb, x10 multi, 166 RAM and x4 HT. F10 to save, PC reboots, posts saying "OVERCLOCK 240!!! if PC hangs press DEL on reboot" (or something close to that) then reboots I bottle it and press DEL and reset values to default. Is this a standard warning and what should I do?
Cheers

Should I not press DEL and will it boot into windows normaly? Will it give me that warning each time or just the first time?

I have tried 11 x 210 =2.3 and 10 x 230 =2.3 with 166RAM and 4 x HT system boots and runs 100% OK. If I try even a small increase from there the system refuses to pass post screen (gives overclock warning then re boots then loops). I then have to set all values to default to allow system to post and load windows. Is a volt increase needed? Any ideas welcome.

Latest update. I now cannot raise the FSB at all past stock (RAM 166, x10 Multi, x4 HT) Will not go past post (just loops). Any Ideas welcome.

Battled on and reached 11x214, x4HT, 166 RAM if I try 215 its no go drop to 214 everythings 100% ok. Tried different combos with no success. Upped the voltage from 1.4 to 1.55 still no go. I'm not sure but I may have read of a prob with my MB (Gigabyte GN-K8N-SLi) going over a certain FSB any ideas or comments?

Can you tell me what settings I should try? I haven't quite grasped the memory timings yet. I think the current settings are 2.5, 3, 3, 8 but don't quote me as I'm on a differant PC. Also after 4 hours of Neverwinternights 2 my core temp according to speenfan was 55deg, normal, bit high, too high????
